Downloads freeze (OS X 10.5)

Ever since downloading Limewire 5, I find that after a while my downloads just freeze, they'll either say they're downloading at a certain kb or say 0kb/s, and if I leave it, it just stays like that at it doesn't download any further, even if it says it's downloading at 3kb/s. I do have a fast internet connection, but I've found with Limewire 5, it just freezes at a certain point, at anytime and just stays like that!

Someone please help!

Does this happen to all of your downloads, or just a few? Does it happen with audio & video downloads? Or just with one type? Are you downloading torrents?

Do you see the 'stalled' message in the download tray, or does the download just sit there & do nothing?

Have you tried doing a new search for the file? Don't cancel the download (or the file will be deleted completely) - when a download gets stuck, search again for that same file... that's worked for me before with a stalled download.

What version of Java do you have installed? Did you update Java when you installed LW 5?
Try updating to the latest Java. Go to the link here Java SE Downloads & download the JRE offline installer. Remove all other Java versions installed on your computer via Control Panel. Next, install the version that you've just downloaded. Restart your computer.

And if that doesn't help, try installing this older version of Java (JRE 6u5): Archive: Download Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE) 6u5
Remove your current version before installing this one.

What performance options do you have checked in LW's tools > options > advanced > super really advanced > performance? See whether disabling Ultrapeer, Mojito & TLS makes any difference.

It happens to all my active downloads, and I only download videos mainly so I can't really tell you if it affects other downloads. I'm running 10.5 leopard and I've got the latest Java update installed. They don't stall, they just sit there and do nothing, but either state that they're at 0kb/s or at another kb/s, but the amount downloaded stays the same, no matter how long I leave it opened for. I have tried searching for the file again, but doesn't work.

Oops sorry - didn't realise that you were using a Mac:p
I'll move this to the OS X section in case there's a fix/advice offered specific to Mac.

How large are the video files? You could always revert to LW 4.
LW 5 does not like to have too many incomplete files or too many shares or it will tend to freeze, especially many images & music. You could try purging your incomplete files. In LW 5 you simply Cancel them & LW 5 will delete the incomplete files.

I have cut down on my downloads but still doesn't do much, I think it's bad if the new Limewire can't handle it though

There's always the downgrade option. ;) You are not the first user to see something like this for LW 5. So it will be interesting to see if you have same problems with LW 4. LW 5 will improve.
