Limewire won't launch

I downloaded Limewire in April and have been using it relatively trouble free ever since. This morning it won't launch. Is there anything I should try before I resort to reinstalling the software? If I reinstall, will I lose what I've downloaded since April?

MacBook Pro
Mac OS 10.5.7
whatever version of Limewire was available for Mac on 4/21/09

You will probably need an update. If you were using LW 5.1.2 or 5.1.3, it clashed with a new java update. So you will need either LW 5.14 which fixed it, else the beta version. Get either from your pro page. :)

I had LW 5.1.2. Upgrading to LW 5.1.4 was an instant fix. Thanks.

I have 5.1.2 Pro version and it won't launch. I don't have the money to renew the pro at the moment. How can I fix this?? HELP!!!

uh ... if you only purchased the one off occasion Pro or your pro support with updates has finished, then you would need to get the Basic version. Download LimeWire 5.1.4 - Lime Wire

Sorry. But I'm also having the same problem. I don't want to risk messing up my Mac, 'cause Lord know I'm no techie. I'm not exactly sure how you uninstall an application on Mac exactly, either, but I've tried to get rid of Limewire and then re-install it. Didn't work. Can anyone tell me what I should do?

Lord of the Rings July 15th, 2009 09:44 PM

Sure, simply update your LW program. Unfortunately the recent OSX java update broke LW 5.1.2 & 5.1.3 .. an alternative is to get the LW beta which has some great improvements including a size filter & loads much much faster. But that's up to you. :) Beta: LimeWire 5.2.5 (Beta) - Lime Wire

Or regular LW download here: Download LimeWire 5.1.4 - Lime Wire ;)

The thing is, I tried the new Limewire. So should I just bother with the beta?

Frustrated08 July 15th, 2009 10:10 PM

Okay, sorry if I'm bothering you, but even though I've had my mac for almost eight months, I still don't know how to uninstall applications. I tried to install the beta, but it still didn't come up.

1. Do steps 1 & 2 here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...downloads.html

2. Delete all traces of limewire including the install LW in receipts folder. Except for new LW installer. You will need to delete the install limewire.pkg file from the receipts folder; Receipts folder sample image

3. Then follow step #3 of the link in post #1. :)
