Limewire 5 won't launch

I had Limewire Pro. Since I did not want to renew the Pro license I uninstalled Limewire Pro (using AppCleaner) and installed the basic version.

To my dismay, the Limewire icon will bounce a couple of times in the dock and then ...nothing.

I'm running MacOS 10.5.7 and Software Update tells me I have nothing to be updated.

Please help!

Are you using the most recent LW version, 5.2.8? The Java update a month ago stopped LW 5.1.2-3 working.

Do a safe boot & repair permissions, this sometimes fixes this issue. (Safe boot = hold down shift key as computer boots up until you see the apple icon) Then boot normally.

You could also set up a test account & see if LW runs there.

Thank you for chiming in.

I am using the latest version of LW and I repaired permissions before and after installing LW, but to no avail.

Will try the test account and will post.

:sos:I purchased 4.16 today and installed it. the icon bounces and then it dissappears. LW4.12 used to work but stopped the other day. I thought LW made my version self destruct so i would buy the latest which i just did. I'm 10.4.11 G4, 1.75 ram, dual 400 mhz processors.

Is there a preferred permission fixer? I have the OS X DVD and cocktail. Are these ok or should i look for something stronger?

Disk Utility on your computer is what you should use for repairing. If you repair from the instal disk, all permissions are set back to default without user permissions. Although it takes longer to boot up, a safe boot can be wise sometimes when repairing permissions. ie: hold down SHIFT key as you are booting computer until you see the apple icon. Then you will need to log in. Repair permissions with Disk Utility. What a safe boot does is turn off some unnecessary system items that might affect a repairing of permissions.

Do you have the latest Java installed? Check Software Update under apple menu far top left of screen.

I occasionally use a free utility program called iTool for various things including repairing permissions. I did once use Cocktail but it also caused me headaches. :D

Try setting up a test account & see if LW runs fine there: Setting up a Test Account in OSX (click on link).

You might also try deleting your old LW preferences: Deleting LW Preferences folder in OSX
