Default strange folders in shared files/saved

I stopped using Limewire a while back when I found some folders that alarmed me. They are still there.

When I open preferences, I see Shared Files, then Saved but in that Saved folder. there are some strange folders, beginning with .BAH47r9, then MSDE2000 and a lot more subfolders.

When I do a search for these folders by name, I get nothing so that makes it even more strange.

Anyone know what this is?

Hi Jordan2 Can you be a little more specific about where you found these files. Do you mean in the preferences folder or in your LW download folder?
Which exact version of LW are you using?
Normally folders starting with a dot are invisible to view on computer. So I guess you are seeing them via browsing with shared or saved option in preferences?

Wow. What a quick reply. Guess you still spend a lot of time here. Happy Holidays.

I see these files when I open Library. Does that explain?

Is it possible to use the Explore button on these folders? I'd be curious to know if these folders are visible on desktop. I'd also like to know what the directory is. Which folders are the parent directories to these strange folders. (ie: what folders are they within.) It's my guess these folders are not needed. You can of course unshare them via control-clicking them & choose from menu.

I cannot find them using any searches. Apparently, they are "invisible." There are dozens of subfolders and appear to be Windows stuff. Some of folders contain .exe files. At any rate, I am looking for a solution to delete them.

Select & delete from LW's Library window. However .. you will need to 'unshare' them first. ie: Control-click them & choose Stop Sharing File/Folder from the menu that appears. I'd suggest you do these steps from the upper folder level so it affects all the sub-folders underneath (inside) .. of course depending on how they are layed out.

You didn't mention earlier there were .exe files so .. yes you have definitely come across something belonging to windows (probably a virus .. especially if it is invisible to view normally!)

I stopped sharing them but can't delete them because they are no longer visible.

Cannot delete them via LW? If they were visible in your shared folder, they should still be visible in your Library (unshared files). They'd show up as Red files instead of black if unshared. oh dash .. perhaps need to reshare that main folder they are in. But unshare each file within then delete.

Sorry, nothing there. I don't have an "unshared" folder, per se. When I check everything else including audio, I see a lot of music files in red but that's it.

But you remember which folder directory it was in right? So you could re-add it. Then try deleting.

Alternative: Showing Hidden files & folders:

Search - VersionTracker

Mac 4 Ever : Le bit de l'invisibilité

Below I have attached the InVisibles utility I used on my G4 with OSX 10.4 & earlier (you may wish to get a later version). If you run the utility once it makes all hidden files visible, run it again & it hides those that had their visibility changed. This will allow you to deal with the files & folders in question.

Above I listed alternate programs at Version Tracker that do similar kind of thing. I have no idea how good they are.
