files disappearing during download

This is driving me nuts! Downloaded the new LimeWire 2.3 a few days ago, but all of a sudden it stopped working like it is supposed to.

What happens is this:

1) I download a file
2) everything goes ok
3) Then I see the file disappearing from my 'incomplete' folder
4) In the meantime Limewire continues, until the file is complete. But afterwards it's nowhere to be found. Grrrrrrrr!!

Have disabled Norton AV Auto-protect, since I also installed that yesterday. But the problem remains.

Are there more people experiencing this strange behaviour?

I, too, am having this same problem. It also happens when I download more than one file at a time. Only the most recently begun file appears in the "incomplete" folder. The rest disappear, but LimeWire still shows that they are downloading....

any one have any ideas?

this really blows....what is going on limewire staff?

I am also having loads of trouble with the downloaded files. they just seem to "disappear" when they are finished downloading. I cannot begin to say how frustrated I am with this aspect of limewire. Staff, please tell me and others what can be done about this problem!

Yep, same here, under Limewire 2.3.2 and 2.3.3 with OS X 10.1.3

Tried going back to a much older limewire, but it rarely finds anything by comparison, although at least anything it does manage to download doesn't automatically disappear.

are you reading this limewire staff? any ideas?

...is there anybody there? It's sort of gratifying in a perverse, sad way, to see that at least other people are experiencing this & it's not necessarily something that I'm missing... there are so many forum topics here, though, that we could go missing along with the downloads...

i have the incomplete folder on the desktop, and sometime after and upgrade, i have anoter one in the LM folder. this also hapened withthe shared folder.

i was pleased to find of of my lost downloads there.

try a seach on the lost file name, and see if it is indeed somewhere else.
Greg

indeed? where did that come from...;)

bigdirtynasty April 4th, 2002 09:44 PM

nope....when the file "disappears" it is nowhere to be found. although it seems like i remember booting up with classic and finding the files somewhere on that disk....i really wish i knew what was going on here....also, i have 2 sets of incomplete/shared folders. the set in the limewire folder, and another set which always appears in the users folder. but the incomplete files go to the incomplete folder in the limewire folder, so why is the incomplete folder appearing inside the users folder??? grrrrrrrrr

Well, I am certainly happy that other people are having the same problems with missing files after they complete down loading. I have used Sherlock to look for those buggers and they are not to be found. It is as if LW threw into the trash and deleted them with no trace.

I am getting fustrated with this condition as it negates the very reason to use this application. As others have indicated, when upgrading too newer versions, the existing shared folder is now a sub folder in the shared folder. I am going to try to rename the folders and delete some of the files to see if this aleveates the problem. This is a big one: are you listening LW staff?

I enjoy the creature comforts of this fine application, but am ready to jump to my Windoze 98 machine and run Morpheous. I have wasted to much of my time already downloading hard to find files only to find them missing.

BTW I upgraded yesteday to the latest build 2.3.4 and the host/connection problem seems alittle better. I am running the latest version of OSX10.1.3 with all the updates. I know there is an outstanding problem with the Intenet Connect Utiltiy hopefully to be corrected in the next release!

Me too

Didn't notice it until a couple of days ago, but now it'll say it's downloading three files, say, but only one will appear in the Incomplete folder and make it to my downloaded files folder. The rest are nowhere to be found (and I searched my entire disk).

I've only noticed it over the last couple of days; about the time I started trying to download some bigger files (>1MB). No idea what's causing it. Sometimes the file has vanished almost immediately after starting to download; other times it goes fine for ages and vanishes later on. I'm sure the rest of you folks know just how infuriating this is!

So -- how do we get the attention of the support folks? Are they supposed to read these forums?

I think this is the same problem as in the thread at http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=10146. No easy solutions, but someone claims that `downgrading' to the older v2.2.1 cured it. (Haven't tried it myself yet.)

All the older versions are available at http://www9.limewire.com:82/download/

The problem may be with the `Days to Keep Incomplete Files' setting (in Preferences->Saving). I spotted no problems until I increased the value from the default of 7 days up to 30. Yesterday I upped it to 999, and it's behaved perfectly since then. No guarantees, but well worth a try.

I was right! Over in http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...&threadid=9371, Christopher Rohrs says:

We just discovered a bug where LimeWire can delete incomplete files immediately, making resumes impossible. The problem happens if you set the "keep incomplete files" option to anywhere between 24 and 49 days. Values between 75 and 99 days will also have the same effect, as will some other values. The problem is caused an overflow error.

He thinks a fix will be in 2.4. Meanwhile, he suggests the default of 7 days should eliminate the problem. My 999 seems to as well, if you need something longer!

the longest time to keep a file is, because of that bug in LimeWire, 2^31 milliseconds. If you enter 23 days, you'll be safe.

the 1st thing I tried was upping the days to 30 ...it didnt work at all :(

I too am having the same issues....Mac 10.3.9, using the current Limewire and files keep disappearing!!!! I download, wait a few days and when I try to play them again they aren't there!! Glad that I didn't pay for this! Switching to Frostwire and will pry THAT works. Can't find an old version of Limewire (2.2.1). Anyone know where I can get a copy? I'm thinking about doing batch downloads and burning to a CD then reimport to iTunes. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
