Freezing / Disappearing Icons

I'm fast slipping into insanity!

[I've been using limewire for a long time. The first version I had I think was 1.5. Then I made a dreadful mistake and upgraded to a newer verison that was less stable than my previous version. So much so that it was to all intents and purposes unusable. So I stopped using limewire for a few months.]

Now I've bought the latest pro version and find that I'm still experiencig many of my earlier problems.

The icons disappear and the whole thing freezes. It's ridiculously slow to redraw screens, and the desktop doesn't redraw at all.
I've got a G4 (single 400 processor), OS 9.2.2, 128mb ram, 129mb virtual memory & no other programs running - except occasionally MSIE.

I've tried increasing memory allocation but if I increase it to 64MB as suggested (I presume that I should enter 64000 in the memory panel under get info in MAC OS) but when I do so it doesn't load at all). It's on 12000k at present but there's no noticable improvement.

Please could someone help me out here?!? (Cheers, Sally-Anne x)

Similar things

I've had the same screen redraw problem just as frequently. My latest problem is that I launch LimeWire, it goes through the initial loading of everything, then it either freezes once the main window is open, or it suddenly quits on me and freezes before I would get the usual "The Application blah blah has suddenly quit" dialog box. The only thing left working is my mouse, which moves, but everything else has come to a dead halt. I'm getting quite sick of this. I've run Norton Tools, I've increased memory, I've even reinstalled Lime Wire. I'm about to give up on this crap. I even have the Pro version. I should be asking for my money back.

Someone help, please
Thanks,
Dane

Another thing

oops

To add to my post, I'm using a Mac G4 733. I have 640 MB of RAM and I'm running OS 9.2.2

Go and check your memory situation at "about this computer..." under the Apple-mark on the left top of your screen. If LW is eating more than 60 MB, and you've only about 2 to 3 MB left available (regardless of how much you're supposed to have left), then this is a well-known-yet-never-solved-memory problem.
I know little about technical things (someone has explained about this program being Java based and so on being the cause of this problem), but what worked for me was a "down-grade" to LW 2.1. I downloaded this version (quite appropriately) from Limewire (someone was sharing it)! All versions later than 2.1 seem to have this problem (I don't know about those who are using OS X). But for someone like me (OS 9.1; G4/400, 128 MB RAM), down-grading to 2.1 did the trick.
Some suggested to add more memory on to your RAM, but from what I hear, this doesn't always help.
It's a pity to see that the earlier version works more stable than the later ones. I have little faith in the current version. I will up-grade when ("IF") someone makes an official notice saying that the "memory problem" has been solved for ever!

Happy sharing.

2.3 is TERRIBLE

Really. Please help me find version 2.1. I cannot believe that anyone is having success with 2.3. I officioally CHALLENGE anyone to tell me they are using 2.3 with success.

I have the exact same problems. The whole thing started with an upgrade to 2.3 Pro. I was on 1.6 or something and things were fine. Then, trouble starts. I want to go back to the older version but can;t find a copy to download. I really don't know what to do next. HELP!!!!

Please e-mail me a version 2.1

If you have a version of LW 2.1, I would appreciate a copy. THanks.
E-mail to : bill_anderson@lifenet.org
Thanks again. I'm really sick of 2.3. I give up!

That friggin' freezing problem!!

I'll echo what many have said -- that freezing problem is maddening!!. I, too, increased the memory in hopes of solving the problem, but to no avail. I was getting close to reinstalling, when I thought to check this forum. Thanks, all, for sharing your woes....I now feel less alone. Hmmmm, I guess this is what support groups are all about. ;-/ Anyhow, like several of you, I'd love to get my keyboard and mouse wrapped around v2.1 of LW. If you'd be so kind, please send to:

Thanks so much!!!
