Freeze

Limewire ran fine for a few days and now freezes the computer up when limewire launches. If it makes a full launch it then runs for a min. or so and then quits and freezes the computer. mac os 9.2 limewire 2.4

freeze

This sounds very similar to what is happening with my system. Havn't found any help yet.

I'm having the exact same problem (G3 OS 9.1).
I tried w/ LW 2.1.3 Pro, with the newest basic Limewire, and with Limewire basic 1.7. I even allocated 75 MB Ram to see if it would clear up, but nope!
... I also noticed that when I set-up folders on an auxiliary drive to be shared, it completely crashed everything (when just a week ago it was working fine).
Anyone have any solutions?

Yeah, the same thing's happening to me. It usually starts after I've downloaded at least twenty or thirty megs, and continues until I've removed all incomplete files which were initiated during the session which caused LimeWire to crash. All crashes are accompanied by a fragmented cursor, as Limewire disappears completely, revealing only the desktop's background, but no icons or menus.

Occasionally, there will be an error of type 10 displayed, but more often than not, no answer is given, and I am required to restrat the computer. :\

I'm having the exact same problem! I'll delete incomplete folder & see if that does the trick.

I had no problems before. Why is this an issue now?

Hello!

These strange problems that you are all experiencing are usually caused by the following:

-Application attempt to execute commands with no equvivalent instruction set in Mac ROM table of content causing system error 10.

Solution update to latest version of LW and install it using special precaution's
After you have downloaded it do the following before installing it
Uninstall present LW.
Then make sure that you have the latest Java MRJ applet reader installed which is version 2.2.5 and available trough Apple's web site

Use Disk First Aid to check for errors and then
use Tech Tool Lite to rebuild desktop and zap PRAM
then disconnect all pheripals except keyboard and mouse
now:
Insert System installation cd
In Extension manager(Apple menu>Contol panels>Extension manager) shift to the Mac OS Full/all extension set and then re start the computer and instantly hold down the c key to boot of the cd.

Now install the recently downloaded copy of LW and install it on Macintosh HD>Applications(Mac OS 9).During installation do not accept that LW install's the latest Java instead as I mentioned above you should download and install it manually before installing LW.

After installation re start computer once again but do not hold down the c key this time. When the computer has finished starting up eject cd and then re start computer once again.
Now open up LW and complete the preferences.Run it like this for a while and see if it fails if not then shut it down and in the Extension Manager revert back to the profile you had before switching to the Mac OS Full/All extension set. After this launch LW once again and see if it will run well if it does you can then reconnect all the pheripals. And you are done.

If it turned out that that you had corrupted System Software then you should do the following:
-Corrupt System software
solution:
Use a third party disk utility such as DiskWarrior to repair the directory or re initialize the disk using Drive Set Up and then reinstall System.

Hope That I helped You!

Uh...why would you have to start from the CD when you can do the same thing through extensions on-off and do a restart? Isn't that overkill?

Unregistered June 18th, 2002 11:47 PM

Your kidding...right

Everyone in this forum is complaining of the same thing. Lime wire dosn't work! You want us to believe that all of these computers are faulty and that it isn't your programing? That is like saying there is something wrong with all of the other drivers when you are on the wroing side of the road! Its not me, its everyone else who needs therapy!

What is very strange is that it works for a few days then quits. Mine won't even start up this program with out freezing the whole computer requireing a reset and restart. Didn't change anything else on the computer. It sounds to me like the program is unstable for some reason.

Try installing it on a Mac and running it for a while, as in uploading and downloading some files. Put some 14 year old techno geek on the machine, he will figure it out and tell you how to fix it. Then I would be happy with the free version and consider buying the pro version or what ever you call it.
