Question my downloaded mp3s are realplayer files

until today, every mp3 i downloaded on limewire was a normal mp3. But all the Mp3s i downloaded today have turned into realplayer files. i deleted real player, but this keeps on happening. What can i do to make limewire stop doing this?

This is a function of File Association within Windows (assuming you are using windows) most file types in windows are registered to be opened by one or more programs.... no doubt when you installed Real Player it registered itself as the MP3 application -

I am using Windows 2000 and to change the association I use Windows explorer.... locate a MP3 file, right click, select properties and then, next to the "Open With" is a button marked "change" then I select the application I want to open my MP3... once done and Applied all of my MP3s open using the new application. The method of changing file associations is probably different between flavors of Windows but the concept is the same.

I am sorry I can't help but I have only had casual experience with MACs... I am willing to bet the issue is pretty much the same... just the mechanics of dealing with it are different.

Sorry - I failed to note I was in the MAC section when responding...

Default Possible solution

Do you want the files to be itunes files? Hopefully, you are using iTunes. It simplifies things most effectively. If you are, go to the Edit menu and select Preferences, under General, check the "Connect to internet as needed" box and click on the SET button underneath the check box. This will make all your future downloads iTunes files, which can be organized, labelled correctly, and neatly kept in one place. Also, go to the Advanced section of Preferences and click Change to change your music folder to your Shared library. That simplifies things a bit. Let me know how you make out. If you don't have itunes, let me know and I'll tell you how to do it for Quicktime.

Good Luck

Cool

Hello!

You will probably find the answer to your problem here in my previous post about this issue:

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=12351

Besides the advices given there you can also always try the free iTunes Associator available trough versiontracker.com
