@#%^ Stuff it

Thanks for the advice!! However... when I tried to follow out the instructions by Worm in the Apple I got the error that the application Stuffit could not be found. Do you know where I could get it? (fingers crossed)

Generally speaking , Stuffit Expander comes with the system and can be found in the Applications=>Utilities Folder. It's also usually installed with Explorer. Try typing command F and searching for 'stuffit' or 'stuffit expander' in Sherlock.

If you really don't have it or have an old version (5.5 or earlier) , you can down load the latest version here.

Once you've got it, it's a good idea to have it on the desktop. To do this, click on the Stuffit icon, type command M and drag the alias to the desktop. Then, when you download any .sit, .bin, .hqx or .zip files , you should drag them directly onto the stuffit icon.

If for some reason StuffIt Expander is not installed on your Mac, you must install some version of it from your sys CD or some other commercial CD before you download the latest version, as StuffIt comes...yes...stuffed. It's one of those progs. like SimpleText or Acrobat Reader that is on practically every software CD, providing, of course, that you have actually purchased software at some point. ;)

Yes, Stuffit does indeed come stuffed, but there is an option included on the Stuffit page to download a Binhex (.hqx) version which can supposedly be decompressed using Explorer without Stuffit according to this link:

http://www.aladdinsys.com/support/te...gen/gen12.html

This option, however, does not seem to appear in my IE 5.1 and, as I've always had Stuffit installed, I've never needed to try it.
