Default clicking apple icon causes 2.5.5 crash

when i click the apple icon (macOS 9.2.2) or the "File" icon when running limewire 2.5.5, it crashes (type 2 error). also 2.5.5. installation gives me a nonfatal error "com.limegroup.install.SettingsTranslator.install( ) Unexpected Fatal Error:".
otherwise, 2.5.5 works ok (for limewire... . anyone know what's going on? thanks in advance.

In most cases, type 1, 2, & 11 errors usually indicate that there is not enough memory for the application to run properly. My rule of thumb [backed by almost 8yrs of Mac PPC support] is to raise the amount of application memory by 2 to 2.5 times. As LimeWire's prefered memory allocation is around 2.1MB, you might try increasing it to around 5.5MB. Ignore the FAQ and posts talking about 64MB ... this causes problems with LimeWire.

Also, in playing with LimeWire for a couple of months, I've found its not happy with piles of other applications open. If you need to have other programs open while using LimeWire, try opening LimeWire LAST so it has some breathing room.

actually, 2.5.5 crashes, and I get a type 2 error, wherever I click in the apple menu bar at the top of the screen when it's running. increasing memory doesn't help. it's the only application that gives me this problem. i read somewhere in these posts that were dealing with a similar issue that perhaps there is a conflict with fax extensions, but the post didn't provide much information. i run 2.5.5 on an ibook at work, same OS 9.2.2, and don't have the problem. oh well.

In that case, I would recommend getting your hands onto the lastest version of Casady and Greene's Conflict Catcher. It replaces Apple's Extension Manager and has piles of helpful features. It allows you to quickly and simply setup boot configurations to troubleshoot for conflicts. You can just click to go to an "OS9 Base" configuration with all the optional software disabled and see if LW is still causing problems. Then you can re-enable stuff in a controlled manor to find your problem.

Forget all the techy crap and disable the faxware extensions. All have stf in their names and are loaded by default. This is the conflict.

Default Faxware?

I have FaxMonitor and FaxPrint disable in my extensions. When I use LimeWire, clicking on the apple icon, it occasionally crashes. But, it ALWAYS makes my drop-downs from the apple icon disappear. And other non-techy-stuff advice?

Do you mean the submenus of the Apple Menu? If so, delete your Apple Menu preference file that should be in your System Folder:Preferences folder. Then open up the Apple Menu Settings control panel and reset the settings.

Hope this helps.....

Default submenu

Thanx. That is what I mean.
They come back when I reboot the comp, but I was hoping to fix it so it doesn't do it again. I'll try what you said.
