Keeps Freezing

Help! Almost every time I am downloading something, the program freezes. The cursor changes from the arrow shape into a blurry little mess, and the program ceases to work. It almost always happens when a download has just reached 100%..... and of course I lose my download. Sometimes it does this when I try to launch a song during download..... I'm getting very frustrated!!!!

Well, I have the problem of it freezing when I log on. I'd like somebody to tell me what's going on because I've even tried connecting when my extension set is reduced to the bare minimum (i.e., Mac 9.x all, but with my DSL connection included). Still, it freezes. I've been on Limewire regular, Pro, and since the past two upgrades it's been a crap program. Yet, there's practically nothing of a Kazaa like program for the Mac other than this that's worth anything. Now, this is becoming worthless.

Are you running Norton Anti-Virus at the same time? I used to see the cursor turn to that when I was running it with LW. Heck, Norton AV usually does that when I try to scan my hard drive (the fuzzy-cursor-thing and freeze). You can try disabling it and scanning your downloads before you use them.

If you're not running Norton, then I have no idea! ;)

Do you have enough memory allocated for LW? I used to have the problem of it freezing on start up before I increased the memory for LW.

Yes, increasing the memory is usually the first thing I do. In this case, it has not helped.

Hmmm.... bummer. I have had it happen on occasion. Never could figure out why it would freeze. But, it's very rare. Usually if I leave it on all night, then in the morning it would be frozen. Force Quit won't even work. Have to reboot.

Sorry I couldn't help.

Actually, the Norton situation (disabling things) didn't cause it to freeze, just quit with a Type 2 error. So, that's some progress. I worked with the memory, but still no dice. Guess it's back to the extensions drawing board. So, you did help more than you think. Thanks!

same prob that I have!

My cursor does the same thing with LimeWire...doesn't matter which one I use. I did have Pro but then switched back to basic (i don't know why I did that) but ever since I have been able to turn Lime on and it works for a few seconds and boom, the cursor goes squiggly. I have Norton and have tried the memory thingy. What is going on? I am on OS 9.2.2 and using G3. Nothing different from before, always had Norton on and no memry probs. Hate this as I want my Lime back!!!!! ANyone else with feedback..please help! Apple was going to charge me $60 to give me advise!

What version of Limewire are you using and what version of Norton? As of a few days ago, I realized having both current versions may not be such a good thing. The solution? Disable all Norton related items (except Personal Firewall if you're on DSL) in your Extensions Manager (in my case I did it in Conflict Catcher) and save that set as something else (I called it "Limewire"). Voila--I have no freezing problems whatsoever. Only thing I get are occasional Type 2 errors. In my case, I have a lot of stuff in my Mac and I need more RAM. Granted, I use an earlier version of Limewire (2.5) and could probably run it in the latest version with Norton disabled but I'm going to keep my current setup since I haven't been able to get Limewire to work for a few months. I'm using a G4 Mac, OS 9.2.2 with the basic version of Limewire.

I'm another one who can't get any action with 2.6 pro. Can anyone give me a step-by-step on how to increase my memory for LW? Thanks.
