mp3s change to 32 bit

most of the downloaded mp3s change to 32 bit, and with it, they slow down! a former 3 min 128 bit song is than 12 min long and unhearable.
I'm using MacOs 9.2.2, Quicktime 6 and ITunes 2.0.2.
Can anyone help????
