Program stalls on startup I just downloaded and installed Limewire for the first time on my G4 running OS 9.1. The program will not completely load at startup; it stops at the point where it says "Loading user interface...." After this point there is no disk activity no matter how long you wait and the program has to be force-quit. Any ideas? (I have allocated 64 K for the program memory.) |
Thought I Had The Answer I'm having the same problem, too. I thought I had found a solution to it, and excitedly just posted it here. But alas, I am stuck with the problem. What's up with LimeWire? The past 3 versions I tried to download have been very buggy. :( -Carrie M. |
Same problem with 2.7.11 "Loading user interface...." |
I am having the same exact problem. I dumped limewire 3 times and fresh reinstalled. Even started with no extensions and no other apps running. No effect. Of course I had to trash my WORKING copy of LW before I confirmed this new version worked. Anyone got any ideas? |
Same here! Same problem here. I'm just posting to get the email notification if there's a reply. |
I have the eternal hang with the latest version as well. G3 233, OS 8.6 |
Same problem here on both a TiBook G4 running OS9.2.2 and a PM8500 running 8.6. I get either "An error of type 2 occurred" or the eternal hangup on start. Did they test this before releasing it? I also downloaded one that was supposed to work from Tucows, but after 40 minutes of downloading, the .sit file is "corrupted" and won't expand. |
Startup Stalls Version 2.7.13 solved my problems. Go get the upgrade if you haven't tried it yet. I thought it was happening again when it got to "Loading User Interface..." ,but after a few seconds there, it finally finished launching. No other problems since then. http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/download#free Skoorb |
I tried downloading that one - no dice. I still get the type 2 error. |
peez o caca Well, After getting version 2.7.13 to work on my old 266 iMac running 9.1 at home, I thought I would try it here on my Quicksilver G4 running 9.2.2 here at work. I was going to ask pietro_z if he was running the latest version of stuffit just in case that was the problem with his "corrupt" .sit file. Well, I downloaded the LimeWireMac.bin file from the link above and something entirely new went wrong. When I double clicked the installer, I got this error message: While trying to start the next step of the installer, an error occurred. Could not find file 'InstallAnywhere installer'. Please contact your software vendor. Par for the course. |
I have Stuffit Expander 6.01 (full version) |

Hope this helps. |
Tried allocating 10, 20, and 50 mb to LimeWire. No luck again. Still getting Error of type 2. |
Same problem "Loading User Interface" Hoping this problem gets solved. What an "update!" |
Unplug External Drives! Well my problem described above has been solved. (Could not find file 'InstallAnywhere installer' problem) I had heard somewhere that the installer was looking on an external drive for the file needed and because it's obviously not there, it says it can't find it. The solution? Just unplug any external drives. I think it's mainly a firewire drive problem, which is what I have, but other drives may be a problem too. I unplugged my Maxtor 120GB Firewire drive and Limewire installed fine and is working too. |
Just got the OSX version. It runs great on my TiBook G4. |
same problem here I have the exact same problem. LimeWire hangs on the "Loading User Interface" and I have to force quit it. Will some expert out there in LimeWire/Gnutella land please post some advice? I am working off a powerbook G3, OS 9. Thanks! |
Is everyone who is getting the "Loading User Interface...." problem definitely using LimeWire 2.7.13?? If not, do you still get the problem with 2.7.13? You can see the version of LimeWire you're running in the Help>>About window. Thanks. |
Version 2.7.13 1 Attachment(s) This version worked for me, but could you explain what's up with the other problem I encountered in this thread? The problem with Limewire not installing if you have an external firewire drive? |
I am not sure what's going on with the firewire drive issue, although other users have also mentioned having problems with this. This is almost definitely an Apple issue, but I'll post to the Apple forums to see if there's anything I can figure out. |
I downloaded LimeWire onto my computer and when I open it, the initial window pops up, but once it gets to "loading interface" or something like that, the program just shuts down. I tried allocating more memory to it, but to no avail. I have OS 9. And I'm sad that it won't work :( |
Stall on Interface User I have the same problem LimeWire version 2.8.4 Pro memory allowed 202 Mo Mac OS 9.2.2 Apple G4 850 StuffIt Expander™ 5.5 I had the same problem suddenly with LimeWire 2.7.13 Pro after weeks well running ... I then decided to upgrade despite "screen bugs" on 2.8.4 .... Very interested on answers |
Loading user interface Yesterday my Limewire worked just fine. Today it kept stalling at "Loading user interface". I went to the website and it said as of 12-19 you needed to download the newest version. I did so but it is still stalling. I am running it on a G3 using system 9.1 Help! |
Loading user interface I had the same trouble and I started it up several hours later after getting a new version and everything. Now it is okay. |
I downloaded and installed LimeWire 2.8 Free today (Powerbook G4/System 9.2) , and I've tried to launch it about 6 times now. Each time it's frozen when the "Upgrade to Pro" window pops up, which it does without the 3 option boxes; just gray. Force Quitting doesn't get me entirely out of LimeWire; it just hangs. I have to restart each time. I should also mention that since installing, I've yet to see the Setup Wizard; perhaps that's part of the trouble. |
