Correct way to upload files
 

I've noticed that alot of the programs listed when downloaded don't open correctly.
If you want to upload a Mac program (at least in 9.1) try it this way. It will save upload time, and should work correctly when downloaded.
Copy the installation file of the program (Ex: Adobe installer)
Drop this copy into Stuff It, compress the file. Upload this file.
If you don't have the installer program, drop the folder containg the program on to Disk copy. Create a image, then drop that image on to Stuff it. Upload the file that is created by Stuff it.:eek:

Sorry. I've downloaded 3 files in img. and img.sit so far, and they won't open correctly.

The .img file is not recognized, and does not have the correct icon. I've re-set the file type and creator, and the image mounter still does not recognize them.

The .sit file un-stuffed to the same.

Seems a good way, but nope! The supposed same programs just as .sit worked fine.

Have you been able to fine another way? Something that does work? Could this be a cross platform issue?
I think alot of people are up loading the programs themselves, and not the install for the program itself. If there is no install file, the extra need files such as extensions are not included.
I've had luck with a couple of programs I've downloaded so far. But these were program installs, not the running programs them selves. If you are uploading the install program of an application, you don't need to use Disk image (at least in 9.1)and it's usualy aready stuffed.
Let me know if you figure out another way.

Everything you said is true , but relies on the people sharing the programs knowing it as well.

If they know they need to include the installer, just set Stuffit prefs to 'create archive', drag every file from the install disk onto stuffit, and post the resultant .sit archive. No hassels, no needing OS X to open .DMG files.

Just spead the word around.
