Can't Open Some Downloaded Songs

When I download some songs into the "Shared Folder" if they load as "MoviePlayer Document" they open just fine with QuickTime Player, however, for no reason at all (even during the same downloading session), sometimes they download into the "Shared Folder" as "Limewire Document" and since there is no player with Limewire for OS8.6, I can't open them. (As when I try to open them it just sends me back to Limewire to try to open them which of course fails without a player.)

I am on OS8.6 with Limewire 2.7.13 and do not have iTunes and have already set the QuickTime Preference MIME Settings for MP3 files to "Use QuickTime Plug-in". Changing the setting to "Use QuickTime Player" seems not to help at all.

I have read may similar posts but still can't figure out what to do or how to change the Limewire Document to a MoviePlayer Document. I saw someone had written an Apple Script to do it but I don't know how to get it and/or use it.

Can anyone offer any assistance?

Droplet

G'day from Oz.

I'll post an attached script as soon as I can write one.

I've posted this in several places, so yet again (thank god for stickies).....

The first thing I'd try is to open the files with FileBuddy, which is worth it's weight in gold.

The file type should show as .mp3, and set the file creator to 'TVOD'. Once you've done this, it will be added to FileBuddys pop-up choices.

If the file then plays via QuickTime, then something is possibly trying to automatically open the mp3's on download, and converting the creator to something QuickTimedoes not recognize. For example, it won't reconize a Media Player file (.asf).

.asf downloads show as blank icons, and need re-setting. They are '????' & '????' after downloading.

If they open ok after re-setting, try setting the QuickTime prefs to 'play internet tunes' and 'play automatically' (or something like that).

My monies on that the files won't play after re-setting. Stuff that stays as a LimeWire document often has something wrong with it.

Best of luck, & regards

G'day from Oz

Here ya go mate.

Still working on trying to automatically running them though. Bit tricky. I think I know why, but haven't got time.

Pass 'em around.

You'll need to unstuff twice.

Regards

Santa.

Thank You Brian

Brian,
Thank you so much for the Attachment you provided. It worked just great and I have given up trying to understand what happened or why it didn't work the same way every time. The script you wrote works great just by dropping to tunes onto the icon. Great Stuff!!! and thanks again for your efforts.
