Download format question.......
 

When I first started downloading music files under the word kind "MP3 Audio File" appeared. Something changed or I did something. Then my downloaded mp3s were appearing as a "Movie Player Document." I checked out this forum and located the info on switching between iMusic and Quicktime. I set it up to open all mp3 files to open in iMusic. However they are now appearing as an "iTunes document."

My question is this..... How do I get the files to appear as MP3 Audio Files once again? Will this hinder my abilities to burn the files as mp3s onto a disc? Should I just leave it, or will I have to change something to get it they way I want to?

Any reply will be greatly appreciated.

If the files are showing up as iTunes documents, do they open and play in iTunes? If so, I would assume that they are ok to burn. Do you have the ability to test the files before you burn with your burning program?

The iTunes issue has come up repeatedly. Try a search of these forums for "setting iTunes as default player" or just "iTunes" you should be able to find some answers that way.

I think you answered my question.

However my question differs from all of the other iTunes questions. My question focuses on the type of file you are downloading. Or as it appears in the hard drive, the "kind" of file you are downloading.

All of my music is now being downloaded as an "iTunes document". Before they were coming as "MP3 Audio File"s. In both instances they opened up in iTunes by default. I just wanted to know if the "kind" of file it was would interfere with anything. Burning them as mp3s or normal size files to play in a conventional CD player.

That was my question, NOT how do I get them to open in iTunes. Thank you though.

Anyway, I just checked my music files for clarification. I use QuickTime as my player. All of my files show up at "Movie Player Document"s. I have had no problem burning them to CD and playing them. There have been a few that Toast (my burning program) will convert to AIFF for some reason or another. But, they have been fine.

I don't know why your files are now showing up as "documents" instead of "mp3 Audio File". I would suggest testing them by burning a CD and seeing what happens.

I wouldn't think that LimeWire has anything to do with how iTunes describes the file type. Have you upgraded iTunes lately? Maybe there was a change in their system?

Again, I would suggest testing some of the files. Trial and error and all...

I have not taken the time to burn yet. Still new to the downloading thing. I just want to make sure everything is right before I start putting things in slate. I know discs come a dime a dozen. :)

Here is something else. I view my HD as a list with small icons, not large icons. When they read "MP3 Audio File" the small icon was a white document with a dog ear folded on it and MP3 on the front. Reading as "iTunes documents" the small icon is a grey document with a dog ear and an MP3 on the front.

Like I said Jill, I think we are all set here. I'm just being overly cautious. My iTunes is from OS 9.1. Is there a different one that I can upgrade to, or just OS X? Thanks.
