why does LimeWire quit (crash) if I click on any the Apple menu?

Hi all -

I'm running the latest downloaded version of LimeWire (not Pro) on a Mac with MacOs 9.2. Limewire works great, but if I click on the Apple (top left of the screen), or indeed any of the Mac OS menus at the very top of the screen (for example, the top right corner, to change applications), it crashes and exits immediately. It's very annoying because then all in progress downloads are lost. I can however click first on the background of the screen (the Finder), and then switch to a different application - that works fine. But clicking on the top menus directly causes a crash. Is this a known bug? Is there anything that can be done about it? Please cc: replies to mlevin77@attbi.com. Thanks!!

I believe that is due to the Fax STF extensions. Try disabling them. Also, if you do a search in this forum for "crashes when clicking Apple menu" you may find more information.

Good luck.

Why LimeWire crashes when switching applications

Hi Julie -

You're right! There's apparently a FAQ on this; thanks for letting me know about the FaxStf incompatibility. The only remaining question is: the FAQ says:

"... To use FAXstf, re-enable the extensions and reboot. Remember to disable these extensions again before running another Java application. This should be fixed in LimeWire 2.2.0 and above."

But I'm now using 2.8.6 and it still happens! Has anyone heard whether this will be fixed any time soon?

Mike
