ok, this may be a stupid question, but how can i get my files into my itunes library??

Open iTunes
 

Open iTunes, go to file menu. Select import and go to your shared folder to song.

You can also drag them into the right column of the iTunes window or on the word "Library" in the left column.
Drag them from a place where they will likely stay for a longer time (an archive f.i.); moving them after dragging them into iTunes means searching the next time you want to play the song/tune.

I'm also new to this. The advice sounds good except none of it works. I do not have a menu item for "import" nor does dragging and dropping the file on Library nor the extreme right column do anything other than show the file in to playlist — it won't actually play. So more help needed please. Is the problem not that LimeWire stores the downloaded files as Quicktime and, once in that format, they're like cut-off from other packages? And there is also the reverse problem. I have lots of iTune files. How do I share those — ie how do I convert them into Quicktime files?

In OSX and iTunes 3.0.1, Import is under the File Menu. If you want all your .mp3 files to show up as iTunes files rather than Quicktime files (this doesn't change the files themselves), click on your desktop, select an .mp3 file, and choose "Get Info." You'll see an option to change which application should open that file, and an option to set the default.

You can set more than one folder to share in the Limewire preferences.

Thanks for the help. I've managed to get all the files from Limewire loaded on to iTunes. Now for the problem of the reverse. I've been trying to set the iTunes folder as the second "shared" file but, so far, this is not accepted as a valid choice. But, I'm not going to let a machine beat me (but I'm not too proud to accept tips.

Is it possible to change the default player to iTunes (or another player) and cut RealPlayer out of the loop entirely?
