Default First run

I've just downloaded Limewire basic to my OS 9. No pb to install. But when Limewire opens, another window comes onto it, inviting me to upgrade to PRO version, and blocks Limewire application. (Finder is still available). It seems impossible to close it. What can i do ???
Thank you.

Cool

Hello!

That little pop up window should have 3 buttons one Yes and one Go Pro and one Later button. Just click the Later button.

Thank you but this window doesn't work !!! I just can see the top of its content...
I have tried to re-install : it's the same thing...
The "esc" key+option+alt makes the window "quit" appears but the click gets the computer jammed...

So you can't drag the window to see the buttons, and JUST the esc key (not "force quit") doesn't help?

Sounds like a memory problem then. Try giving LW more memory (60 megs is good). Joakim know more about giving Java's Apple MRJ more memory.

OS 9.?/machine are you using, and which LW version?

Hello!

You say that you can only see the top of the window maybe you just could try dragging it upwards and it will display the entire content. If this does not work then it could be related to the following:

-Corrupted preferences. Try trashing the .limewire folder found inside the System Folder inside the program preferences folder and re start your Mac. Then try to launch LW and you will be taken trough the set up wizard. And it should then work if this was the issue.

-Java problem. Maybe are you using a version of MRJ that is to old. Update to MRJ 2.2.5 if this is the case. And assign it 32000 as the maximum value but dont touch the minimum value. To assign memory to MRJ do the following Highlight the original application icon and from the file menu select Show Info >memory and set the maximum value to 32000 then re-start your Mac for the changes to take effect. You dont have to assign more memory to LW itself since LW will do that automatically since it is a Java app and works differently that way compared to other Classical Mac OS apps. Anyway after you have installed the latest MRJ and assigned it proper amount of memory you should uninstall everything LimeWire on your System. Just use the Uninstall app that was included with the LW install. Then use Sherlocvk and search for LimeWire and see if it finds anything left and if it do just trash the rest of the files except the Shared folder ofcourse. Then download a new copy of LimeWire 2.9.8 and install it. Found here:

Joakim, you are a genius !

This ****in' installer put the preferences folder in a wrong place !!! I 've followed your advises, and everything seems OK now... I wouldn't have found this alone, thank you VERY, VERY MUCH ! I definitly hate preferences and extentions... By the way, what is MRJ (for a next time !) ???

Happy easter !

Hello!

Happy that it worked!

So what is MRJ?

MRJ is the Java Runtime environment and version 2.2.5 uses JRE 1.1.8 that LW uses since it is a Java app for the Mac OS version. It is an Java Applet Runner and the MRJ is short for Mac OS Runtime For Java. The MRJ is found here in Classical Mac OS 9.1:

Macintosh HD>Applications(Mac OS9)>Apple Extras>Mac OS Runtime For Java>Apple Applet Reader>Apple Applet Reader Application icon
