I get a blank page icon when I download music now???

I am running Mac OS 9.1 and lately the music I download has a blank page icon that will not open up nor will it play on Itunes 2. Can anyone help mewith this mystery??? Pretty Please!

Hello!

Try this:

In iTunes go to File>Add To Library

Browse to the file in question and select it. Now browse your Library in iTunes to find the file. Doubble click it to play it. And it should play.

Another method is to drag a bunch of files in to a newly created folder on the desktop and then drag and drop that folder onto a newly created playlist inside iTunes. And all of them should be added and playable from that playlist.

Hi Joakim
Thanks for your reply!!
Unfortunately, neither suggestion seems to work... then of coure, it may just be me (LMAO)
All the other songs I've downloaded have that cute little MP3/musical note icon, so I am curious why the change.
It's frustrating that there's no other truly good working program like Limewire was for us Mac-heads.
WHERE'S MACSTER WHEN YOU REALLY NEED IT!!

Try this http://homepage.mac.com/josiahpugh/itunesassociator/ it's a small application that changes files to associate them with iTunes.

Itunes associator

Hi Jack

I got the Itunes associator, did the drag and drop, and while I may be having a blonde moment, the file I dragged and dropped still did not show in the Itunes player nor did it start to play that song..... am I making sense of this??

how big is the file and does it have the .mp3 extension?

maskedsoul April 23rd, 2003 10:34 AM

:o
The file size I am unsure of but all songs have an ".mp3" extension........
What am I doing wrong??

Probably nothing. In the finder, click on the file and Get Info (cmd-I) to see the file size. There are spam files that are less than the usual 3 or 4 mb of a typical mp3.

blank page icons

yo maskedsoul,

You are not alone. It seems LW or IE has, for some reason, changed the file type and creator on my Mp3 downloads.

If you go to www.muchosoft.com, they have a nice little free app called 'muchofileinfo'. When I encountered a blank page icon, I dragged the icon on to muchofileinfo to find the file was an MAmp created mpeg file. Changing it to a TVOD (quicktime) Mp3 file converted the blank page icon back to a QT icon. The file then played in iTunes just fine. This is a pain to do to all your DLs but it works in the short term.

To solve the problem I created a file translator protocol in my file exchange app (in your control panel). Click ADD and have MAmp/MPEG files translated by iTunes.

I also went into the preference section(Edit Menu) of internet explorer to Flie helpers and made sure my QT plugin was handling my Mp3 files. This solved my blank page icon troubles.
