No one seens to have uploaded anything from me

Is anybody able to UPLOAD?
I look in the monitor ,but no one seems to upload anything.
Songs register HITS, but no uploads.
The green light is on.
Also, your own files don't show up in searches, right?HELP!

Uploading?

Hi

Whether people can upload depends upon a number of possible factors. Are you, for example, currently sitting on an American school, university or workplace LAN? If so, the odds are that, fearing legal action, the system administrator is reducing the bandwidth to avoid litigation from the RIAA. Have you a firewall? If not, what settings have you put into Preferences? If you have cut the number of slots for uploads or reduced the allocation of bandwidth, you could be cutting yourself off from the world. There are so many issues to explore but, on the basis of the slight information you have provided, no way of knowing what your particular problem is nor how it mught be resolved.

And, as you say, your own files do not show up in your own searches.

Some attepts have now been made.

I have now noticed some upload activity, but only 1 or 2 percent of something.
I'm now worried about the new virus I heard about yesterday that involves music from Kaaza. Any news on this?

You're on the Mac forum

Over the last year, a number of virus and fraudulent autodialer packages have been put up on the net pretending to be desirable files. But, since you are on a Mac, there is no real cause for concern about viruses. As to upload activity starting slowly, we are in the realm of complete speculation since you still have not given any substantive information. If you are a completely new Limewire user, it can take Gnutella a little time to notice you. This may be because you do not have many files for sharing, and those that you have are very popular and readily available elsewhere. The ultrapeers keep records including the length of time you are on-line. If you are only linked for ten minutes every week, there will be little point in others starting to download from you, etc, etc, etc. All this in addition to the questions I posed last time which you have also ignored.

jeeze, I did not come here to get yelled at!

NO FIREWALL NO UNIVERSITY
Did it ever occur to you that I would have answered these questions if they applied to my situation? I'm not an idiot, but I don't know anything about bandwith, nor have I purposely changed anything concerning bandwith.
Thank you, but I did not like your tone.

David91 May 14th, 2003 02:35 AM

In that case. . .

. . .I leave it to others to speculate on what, if anything, may be wrong with your system. Perhaps you will have better luck with their tone.

Had the same problem

Try going to System Preferences>Sharing>Services and enable Personal File Sharing. Then drag your Limewire download folder (or whatever you want to share) into the Public folder on your home. Worked for me!

Janfo May 24th, 2003 09:30 PM

file sharing

If you do it that way, the uploads still show on the Lime Wire monitor page?

David91 May 25th, 2003 03:46 AM

Hmmm

My advice would be not to enable Personal File Sharing but to leave your System Preferences in their default settings. The change proposed by Darkstar will not affect Limewire's ability to enable upload's from your machine which was the point of your original question. Rather it affects the way the Firewall supplied as a part of your computer package does or does not permit other users to access files on your machine (a very different purpose from the one you were interested in).

Janfo May 25th, 2003 11:46 AM

yeah, I figured

Sorry I got mad at you before about the "tone" thing, but I'm still having the same upload problem. After a few percent, it says "transfer interupted".
I'm on dial up, maybe thats why. And sometimes I have to kill the download and re-connect several times to complete a file. The "resume" button does not work .
