Pop-up ads revisited, and revealed

Everytime I got a pop up, I wrote down the IP address (at the top of the pop up window). I searched the IP's, and this is who they were traced to:

Alot were from Cox Communications, Verizon Internet Services, Adelphia, America Online, Comcast Cable Communications, AT&T WorldNet Services, AT&T Worldcom, AT&T Broadband and Charter Communications.

Some were from colleges: Marquette University, Bridgewater State College, Penn St, Korea Inst of Tech...hmmm.

And some were Foreign Companies: Asia Pacific Network Information Centre in Brisbane, AU, RIPE Network Coordination Centre in Amterdam, SaskTel in Canada, Shaw Fiberlink in Canada, Roadrunner.

I'm still wondering ...? What is the purpose of pop up windows, asking for your user name and password.

If you want to trace those Pesky Pop Up's thru their IP's you can do it here.....

Hi

According to Sam Berlin in the OSX forum, these pop-ups are outsiders exploiting a feature in an early version of Limewire. If you have an early LW, you can avoid the interruptions altogether by upgrading.
