How to preview files as they download?

Hi everybody,
I just downloaded LW 3 for Mac OS 9.2 I like it so far. I had trouble expanding .sit, but using latest Stuffit Expander (7.0.3) fixed the problem.
I downloaded 3 big files so far, ranging between 40 and 60 Mb each, all installers. Once expanded, two of them won't even start the installation (corrupt or something), the third installs a beta version. My question is: is there a way to know what you're downloading before wasting a lot of time and bandwidth? How do I know that "Adobe Illustrator 10 OS X.sit" is a beta and not a full version?

Thanks

Limewire does not in any way shape or form condone the downloading of copyrighted software.

And to answer your question, no, there's no way to preview a stuffit file while it's dling.
