Convert from MP3 to CD format?

How can I convert an MP3 song to a format that can be played on CD players? Do the songs need to be WAV files? Can anyone recommend a (preferably free) software that will do this for me?

Thanks!

Which Mac OS version are you using? http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120073 will get you iTunes for Mac OS 9, for example.

I'm on OS 9. Will itunes do it?

Thanks!

I think so. Here's what the link posted above says:
Quote:

Requirements

iTunes works with all Macintosh computers that have built-in USB ports. Mac OS 9.0.4 is required; Mac OS 9.2.1 or later is recommended.

To burn audio CDs, you must have Mac OS 9.1 or later, the Authoring Support software, and a supported CD-RW drive.

The Authoring Support software is not included with the iTunes installation. Use Software Update to download the latest version. Choose Control Panels from the Apple menu, then choose Software Update from the submenu. Click the Update Now button. You will be notified if there is a newer version of Authoring Support for you to download.

Even if you do not intend to create audio CDs, if you are using Mac OS 9.1 or later you should download the Authoring Support software. It includes the latest CD/DVD driver software that iTunes uses while importing songs to your music library.

All internal Apple-supplied CD-RW drives work with iTunes. For a list of other drives that also work, see the iTunes Web site at www.apple.com/itunes/

Note that Toast's CD burning extensions conflict with the Fire Authoring Support Update from Apple.

Download Sound Jam Free, open the mp3 file on it click on add to converter and convert the file to AIFF .
Then go to http://www.digidesign.com , download Protools Free, install etc.etc....
Open protools Free on the Mix window on the upper right corner there's a menu select import audio , import the AIFF file and bounce it (File menu) as SDII file.
Burn :)
