Mac 8.6 Can't Connect
 
Please help.
I am using OS 8.6
I can launch Limewire Pro, no problem.
Just stalls, although in connection window says connecting to various IP addressess.
Nothing actually gets "connected"
Red light stays on.
No spinning arrows when I do search, nothing.
Used Limewire, before, older version before Pro. Worked fine. Last download a couple of months ago. Downloaded a few MP3's but connection very very slow.
Using a DSL Cable modem, with Shaw Cable in Canada, Alberta.
I believe there is no firewall, if anyone knows differently let me know.
I can see my modem light blinking on my end, I believe that my computer is sending out the information, but nothing is coming back, and no connections are actually being made.
Can someone please please help me :P

Nice job of the detailed info--sorry to hear of your connection problems. Trying to connect with 8.6 and a modem can be very difficult at the best of times. Still, looks like your setup is good since it worked before.

I just looked over my connections, and see some from ed, wp and vn.shawcable.net (Edmonton, Winnipeg and Vancouver maybe?). So, I'd guess Shaw is good, but it might be worth calling them to make sure you're clear to connect to the gnutella network on port 6346.

Unless you added a firewall, there's not one built into 8.6, so you should be OK there.

The LW team has added some code to help with connections, but that won't be released for a few days. If you want to try connecting in the meantime, you could try going to the Connections Pane and entering the IP:port of a friend running as an Ultrapeer. That can be tricky if the friend already has all the slots filled, but might work if the timing is right.

If not, message me and maybe I can send you some of those IP's.

Hi Stief,

Thanks for the reply I''ve got a message into shaw right now, just waiting for a reply. They usually have a backlog. I'm also wondering if the network is just plain bogged down. My connection has been faulty since I switched to them. It seems that around certain peak time i.e. viewing times for TV , the internet network just stalls. I'm going try to connect tonight really late and see if that is the problem, I'll also check out the port issue with Shaw and I've got an email into Limewire. I like your other idea, and if it isn't too complicated, I'd love to try it out. My email is jo33bd@yahoo.ca - I'm not sure how the messaging thing works here????
