Hi there. I have 4.5 and 9.2.2 as well. I had the same problem as you are having. I found (for some reason) that it was fixed by starting up Explorer first and letting it run for a while, then quiting and then starting LimeWire. Don't know why this works but it does. Hope that helps.
Donny.

Funny you should suggest that about Explorer, because I found the same to be true when I was using LW 2.x on OS 8.5. (I only stopped using that version a month ago!)

Type 1 errors are often related in some way to a problem with RAM. Check to see how much RAM is allocated to LW. Try adding some more if Explorer doesn't solve the issue. Also, I found Java can be an issue, see which version of Java you have installed & see if there's an update around for OS 9.

Thanks guys. I did try to allocate more ram to LW first, I have plenty

I will check the version of java I'm running, thanks for the suggestion. I tried the running IE thing first, then starting up LW, but it didn't work.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

Here's Apple's java link (use 2.2.5--2.2.6 is only for certain Oracle users) http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75097

Type 1 and 2 errors may also be triggered by extension conflicts
Quote:
Type 1 error (Bus Error)

One of the most common indications of a memory-related error. It means that you tried to access an non-existent/inaccessible memory address.

Common causes and solutions: Init/Extension or Control Panel conflict. insufficient memory for the operation being attempted, you could try allotting more memory to the application.

Type 2 error (Address Error)

Very similar to a Type 1 error. Some piece of information was written to the wrong place in memory. Attempting to access data larger than a byte on an odd address (68000 processor) or an instruction at an odd address.

Common causes and solutions: Init/Extension or Control Panel conflict. insufficient memory for the operation being attempted, you could try allotting more memory to the application. The instruction being requested may not be supported on the CPU. i.e. an 030 request on an 68000 processor

Thanks very much for your help. I have now increased the memory allocation for LimeWire and have updated my Java. Still having the problem however but it's still good to have done the above. I have a feeling that it's something to do with a firewall issue. When I try to browse only certain hosts, a box comes up that only says "Error" at the top and nothing else. It's like it isn't able to complete the warning and I'm not even able to close the box or force quit the application. At that point everything is frozen and the only thing that I can do is use a paper clip to restart.

Your version of LW is 4.0.5 right? Other people on this forum have complained about this version. And even one of the engineers of LW wrote a response that there was an issue with this version that was fixed in 4.0.6. Version 4.0.7 is now available - you could maybe try a different version. Other than that I don't know. Not everybody's happy with LW 4.x

Seriously guys--time to start working with OS X if you want to keep participating in filesharing. I've watched LW struggle for almost two years to work with Apple's Java for Classic, but gnutella and java keep going foward, and java for Mac classic has remained stagnant. Troubleshooting LW and Classic just gets harder and harder, as our familiarity gets rustier and rustier.

Looks like the 4.1 series will be the last of LW for classic. The LW devs have held out for a long time (especially sberlin). . . and many of us have appreciated the efforts . . . but once you've tried OSX it's really hard to go back to any Internet activities on OS 9 and earlier.

[Aside: Sigh. I think I'll join an antique Macs club for nostalgia's sake before my wife throws out all my old Macs. Remember the thrill of Desk Accessories in Sys 6.0.7, was it?]
