iTunes Integration What exactly happens with the integration? And what do I have to do to integrate. |
Integration? You mean what happens when you click the "Enable iTunes support" option in Limewire? Well, if all goes well, then Limewire creates a playlist in iTunes and whenever there's a new download, then Limewire will automatically open iTunes and have it import the song. You'll end up with two copies of the song: one in the Shared folder and the other in your Music directory. You don't have to do anything other than tick the box to enable the function then click Apply for this to happen. |
Is it possible to share my 'iTunes Music' folder instead of the 'shared' folder, So I can share all my music I have imported in iTunes? Or are ther problems concerning empbetted folders inside my 'iTunes Music' folder? This would save a lot of disk space. ruud |
Well, it is possible but, if I'm right, then it'd be far too much of a hassle to do it. That's because LW doesn't seem to recognize sub-folders, or at least I don't think it does: I tried sorting stuff in my shared in sub-folders, but, even though Limewire recognized that there were, like, 500 files in the Shared directory, it didn't show any of them in the Library, and Refreshing it didn't help at all. Now, to actually add all the folders, you have to click explore in the Library, or go to Limewire->Preferences (or Options, depending on the OS you have) and add them from there. To understand why this would be a hassle, if you're like me and like to have an iTunes library that's all organized with Artist, album, song, etc, etc names, then go to the Music folder in the Home directory of the Finder and see how many folders there are. If you've got more than 500 songs and they're all sorted by artist/ album then you're in trouble... Unless someone has a much faster way to add folders to share in LW, then it's just too bothersome IMO (I've already done it twice, before and after upgrading to Panther and frankly, I don't I'll ever do it again...) |
Maybe I'm misundersatanding, but I share my iTunes folder without problems. I was also surprised to find people were uplding these files without problems. (I've noticed LW seems to have difficulty when you share 2 identical mp3 files - one of the folders will not register.) I also share several other folders around other parts of my HDD. I don't know if this means anything or is helpful at all. Hopefully it is. |
Well, maybe it's just my Limewire. |
When you tried having your iTunes folder shared, in the lw lib window, did you click open each of the folders & levels of folders (eg-album folders) to see if they could be seen in the lib win.? Most frequently I have people dwnlding from these folders. And there's lots of them arranged as you suggested via artist & album, etc. I suspect you didn't click open the (album) folders in the lib window. I have selected the main 'iTunes Music' folder as the 1st level folder. Maybe you should go back to version 4.0.4 like mine! Hehehe |
My Sweet Lord: quote 'did you click open each of the folders & levels of folders (eg-album folders) to see if they could be seen in the lib win.?' Thanks for the input you all on this. But is there a check box in LW preferences I'm overlooking? I'm sharing my iTune library at the moment but it does't show in the LW library. |

Also, depending on which iTunes folder is selected as the main share folder (for me it's called 'iTunes Music') (you better check it), if you click onto the folder's arrow in the LW Lib window, all its sub-folders (next level down) will show. For me that means a list of artists. Just click on the arrow next to any of them to see their albums. Next click on the album folder to see the songs listed in the window. |
