liimewire crashes

Haven't used Limewire in a while and just performed a clean system reinstall. When I reinstalled Limewire Pro v4.5, it started up fine and even remembered my old partial downloads. Everything seems to work great except for one probem. I cannnot "hide" Limewire. It immediately crashes (Type 2 error) when I try to hide it. So, I increased preferred memory incrementally all the way up to 8000 and rebuilt my desktop. Didn't help so i uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Same scene. I have now increased memory to 10240. I am out of ideas. Seems like i read about a solution to this back in May or June posted by Bootylicious and/or Stief in May or June. but can't find it back.

I am using a 600mhz Imac, loaded with RAM and run OS9.2.2. Have plenty of HD left (almost 30 gigs.)

Must be a simple solution.

Hi Jordon2, is this the thread you were refering to: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=25990 Type 2 errors are generally in one form or another related to ram. I'm sure you have MRJ 2.2.6 for OS 9.2.2 http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120209 Have you considered updating you LW. I'm not sure what the last version of os9 LW is but the present version is 4.0.8

Nice to see you and thanks for such a quick reply.

I have Limewire Pro v4.5.

That is one of the links I was trying to find. When I tried to install MRJ 2.2.6, I got a message that "svensk" was on my HD and was newer than MRJ 2.2.6. I don't recall that.

What next?

svensk sounds like you may have a language setting incorrectly set somewhere.

Your version of LW must be 4.0.5 not 4.5. the latest is 4.0.8 (the beta is 4.1.5 which I use but it's not OS9 compatible.) LW 4.0.8 for classic os9 dwnld link

Sorry to take so long to respond. I lost my connection for 2 hrs & so did the entire state.

Ok here's what I did.

1) Uninstalled the Pro version of Limewire that i had installed last June and trashed everything on my hard drive beginning with "lime."
2) Restarted and rebuilt my desktop.
3) Installed the newest free version.
4) Upgraded to MRJ 2.2.6
5) Restarted
6) Tripled preferred memory for Limewire from 2048 to 6144

Limewire still crashes when I attempt to "hide" the application.

If you are still registered with LW you're still eligible for any updates up to 6 mths after. You should have a personal dwnld page. (Check here & add email you registered with.)

I remember when I was using LW 2.x (just 6 mths ago), it didn't especially like being hidden (seemed to be a ram rush.) Are you running any other apps whilst you try to hide LW?

Java is not the most reliable item out there & even now still has some probs with memory leakage & language probs.

Until I can think of something else, do a complete maintenance of your comp. Run your apple & 3rd party utilities; repair minor probs, check directory health, defragment. It might not necessarily fix the prob, but if your comp is in tip top shape, it'll help overcome some of those tipsy situations like you have.
How much RAM do you have? Do you run heavy apps whilst running LW in the background?

My update period has expired so I am using the most current free version.

"Are you running any other apps whilst you try to hide LW?"
Of course!
I have IE5 and OE 5 all the time. I use Microsoft Word frequently and occasionally use MYOB (my accounting software) but never when using Limewire. That's it except for an occasional side trip on Mozilla.

Just want to make sure that MRJ 2.2.5, which is what I had, is not what I want now. I installed MRJ 2.2.6. That's correct, right?

Once a week, I run the full diagnostics on Tech Tool Pro and every month, I run Disk Warrior 2. I just recently (last week) performed a clean system reinstall so everything is in tip top condition.

I do recall having this crashing problem before but can't find the post about how to fix it. I remember it as being something simple. It's possible someone sent me the solution by email but, if so, I didn't keep it. Arrrrrggghhhh!!!

Thanks for staying with me on this.

Diskwarrior is a very good & important app & techTool pro is also vg. mrj 2.2.6 is the most recent java version for os9.2.2. The apps you use don't sound very ram hungry so I'm a bit surprised. Other than putting it down to java's inefficient ram management.
