Actually, what you said in another post was...

error message - Toast 4.2

When dragging an mp3 file to Toast 4.2, I'm getting a error message 39. What's that?

I deleted the other post as it was so close to a duplicate, but have placed your original message here...
Hopefully you will get a little more attention !

Type -39 error (Logical End-of-file reached during read operation)

The Macintosh was expecting a marker to show it where the end of the file is on the disk. That marker is either missing or is in the wrong place. A crash is the most common cause, however a disk error or corrupt file can also cause this.

Solutions: Recovering the file frequently fixes the problem. If it does not, make a clone of a backup, open the clone and try to import from the file that is giving the -39 error message.
In other applications, using an Import or Insert command from inside a new document frequently works around the problem. You also might move/copy the file to another volume.

Re: Mac OSX error 39

Mac OSX error 39 appears due to file system corruption and thus to repair it you need to format the hard drive. After this http://www.gnutellaforums.com software is the best to opt for which is capable to recover entire data lost after formatting.

Sleepless edit: When someone new posts in a 7 year old thread I check the links, and that site really wasn't informative about the software. Removed link. If you have a problem with that, then please do inform me.

The best two file & directory repair utilities nowadays I use are DiskWarrior & Drive Genius. Both are commercial softwares. DiskWarrior is second to none for repairing directory damage (OS 9 to OSX) & this tends to be the most common issue on the OSX system. Whilst Drive Genius has the same function, I do not trust it at all, finding it actually causing problems that DiskWarrior needed to repair. Drive Genius has many other good tools though. Like any multi-tool utility, Drive Genius' has some that are good & some that cannot be trusted.

This is slightly off-topic however.

As for Toast errors, possibly due to a fake or corrupt file or file-type not fully supported in the earlier Toast versions.
