java.lang.exception In Initializer Error

I've been using Limewire for several months and updated to 1.6d a few weeks ago, and its been working fine. Today it wouldn't open and instead showed a Fatal Application Error window which stated : "Invocation of this Java Application has caused an Innvocation Target Exception. This Application will now exit. (LAX) "

When I clicked on a "Details" button it showed five lines of text about why it didn't work. I can get it for you (anyone!) if it will help. I uninstalled and then reinstalled with a new download and the new install provoked the same reaction.

I did install ICQ yesterday. Can't think of anything else new that's occurred.

Thanks for any help or suggestions; I am a relative newbie.

Update:

I found in the forum section "connection problems" that a user with the same error code had erased his limewire 1.6d and reinstalled and the problem was corrected.
I tried the same thing initially just using the uninstall in the limewire folder. No result.
Then I used sherlock to search for any "lime" and trashed all limewire apps, aliases, etc until a "limewire" search of my hard drive came up empty. I then downloaded the limewire app again, and reinstalled. This corrected the problem.
I hope this helps anyone with the same difficulty.

I'd been using lw for weeks with no problems before I got the "Fatal Application Error" message concerning a Java problem. Can anyone enlighten me on how it could suddenly arise?

Just wanted to let you know I have the EXACT same problem and was really glad to come across your suggestion, which I will try now.

Thanks!

Hope it works. Mine has been fine since I trashed and reintstalled. Letting me know you saw my post and were going to try it confirmed that it was worth the time to write it out.:)

Worked out great! I originally used Limewire's Uninstall which didn't work, but when I manually trashed it, reinstall worked fine. This seemed a lot less trite 24 hours ago, but thanks again.

Nothing works!!!!

I've tried it all! Deleting everything....reinstalling....installing MRJ 2.5.5....and NOTHING WORKS!!! This is so damned frustrating! It worked fine until I used Classic mode on my OS X partition, and now I can not get Limewire to work to save my life! I can not believe the people at Gnutella aren't giving an answer for this!

Are you getting the ExceptionInInitializer error, or is it just not responding at all?

If it is simply not responding, I would suspect that it's having a problem locating the MRJ in the correct System Folder, especially given that you experienced the problem when running OSX in Classic mode. You might want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the MRJ again, but this time making sure that its added to the System Folder that whichever OS you're currently using is running from.

Also, if you're using OSX, I would recommend just giving the OSX version a shot. It is very strong, and you don't need to worry about the MRJ at all. It will also be improving significantly in the future (file and URL launching will be added, for example), and is definitely the preferred Mac version of LimeWire over the long term.

OS X is the way to go...

Afisk...

Thanks so much for the heads up with the X version. It works fine for me. I still can not get it to run on OS 9.1 (I've reverted back from 9.2.1 for obvious reasons if u read any other BBS). Out of curiosity, is there a way to get hold of an older version (1.6, 1.5, etc.) to run instead of the problematic 1.7 for OS 9? Thanks in advance!

http://limewire.gnutelliums.com/1.4b/

Change the number in the URL accoring to what you want to download. for instance, 1.6b, 1.6d, 1.4, 1.5, whatever

:-)
