limewire keeps freezing question Hey there! I'm very frustreated and not very technical here. I downloaded limewire pro and everthing was great for a couple of months then it startd freezing as soon as i opened limwire and i have to shut down the computer etc . I wiped it from my computer and downloaded and payed for it again....only to have the same thing happen. I use a mac 9.2.2 connected to ADSL. Can anyone give my any tips to get back on track? |
I'm curious why you posted a mac question in the Windows section. lol :D Some ideas: Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! After opening LW wait 10 to 20 mins or longer before using. Let it settle down 1st. Also don't use the Resume button on all incomplete files. This can have side-fx such as affect LW's connection quality. This will also stress LW & your comp. If you use Resume/Find sources then just apply it to a couple or so at one time. You could also try deleting LW's preferences called .limewire whilst LW is closed & found in the system preferences folder. View preferences folder in list mode & view it by name & .limewire should be at the top of the list. Or else you can use the Find function (apple & F keys.) What do you mean you paid for it again? If you're a pro user then you just downld it from your personal downld page. Unless your 6 months of free updates had completed. |
thanks for the reply Whoops....didn't realize i was in the pc section. I have no dwonloads waiting because it freezes as soon as the 'tips of the day' comes up and i have to shut down the computer as the mouse wont work. Is this common? Cheers |
Make sure you have the last java released for OS 9: MRJ 2.2.6 for OS 9.2.2 'If possible' untick the option to show Tips on start up. How much ram do you have? How much HDD space? What model of mac is it? It might be worth increasing the maximum ram allocation to LW. Select the program in the finder & apple & i keys & change the ram allocation. Try adding 15-20% more initially. Someone suggested: Play with the memory allocations (get info)--LW needs 60,000KB. But in my experience you should add it bit by bit until you find a workable allocation. The issue with LW in OS 9 & earlier is the Java is out of date. So we need to use it carefully. Learn what it likes on your particular system. I was still using LW 2 in OS 8.5 12 months ago. It was a pain b/c that version of Java was even much older. Rebuild the desktop next time you startup (hold down Command & Option keys as it's starting up. If you don't have a lot of ram then see: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...8426#post98426 |
new version has bugs the new version freezes whenever i pause or cancel a download so i went back to the older version and it works fine now.:D |
I have Windows XP and since I downloaded Limewire Pro, Limewire is freezing up too, leaving a blank white screen. I don't have to shut down my computer but I do have to hit control alt delete in order to get out of the site. Nothing else works. Help! |
