anybody?

There aren't many of still using OS 9 any more, so . . . don't really have recent experience with your problem, and am not sure exactly what the problem is. Sounds like you try a search, but no results show in the results columns.

Just a guess: Take a look at your connection tab (if not turned on, I think it's in the View menu), and look at the vendor/version column.

By disconnectiiong and reconnecting from the file menu, you should get a different set of hosts. Maybe the new hosts will return results.

You say the latest version, do you mean LW 4.0.10 or something? Go to LW's menu bar, Help->About LW & this will tell you.

If LW shows it has a good connection (all green bars or all light blue) & you can't get search results, then it might be due to your ISP. In the bottom left corner is the connection as suggested? Or do you get red bars? (see image sample below)

Try downlding a file from here: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml
Do you get anything downlding?

After LW's been open at least 20 mins, do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False? (Are you sharing any files?)

(Oh I didn't see Stief's post. I must have taken longer than I thought looking thru OS 9 snapshots lol :D)

i have LW 4.0.10 installed.
My connection bar shows all green and it says it is "Excellent"
I try to connect different hosts but the problem still exists...

I make a search and nothing in the result collums

PS: Im sharing about 400 files (98mbs)

This looks a little ominous to me. Who is your internet service provider (ISP)?

BTW did you try that link I gave you about downlding a magnet link? Please try it! (click on the link above) Although you get there with your browser, once you select a file to downld, it will link to LW & LW will attempt to downld it ... not your browser!

Also, did you do the bug test to see if there's any incoming?

hebele December 4th, 2005 07:37 AM

When i try to click on a magnet link it gives an error.
My mac can not understand that he must open the link using limewire.

About test;
IT says, incoming thing: false
But my roommate who has windowsXP can make search and get results and download. We have the same connection form same ISP.

Are you two networked together at all?

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. What firewalls you have?
2. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
3. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
4. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
5. What version of Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
6. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
7. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. As many details as possible! ;) Is your room mate using LW at same time you're trying to search using LW?
8. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.

9. LW 4.0.10 has magnet link abilities so I'm not sure why it didn't work (unless it's an out of date magnet tool. I never tried using it in OS 9 but know it has it in 4.0.8) Do you have any other p2p sharing programs on your computer?

BTW the false report in the bug report suggests there's some kind of firewall somewhere. Be it your computer, a connection device such as router/modem, or if you connect thru your mate's computer then that might be the source. It might be from outside of your room.

I live in a dorm and connected a network in the campus.
I dont know what firewalls included.
I have the latest java software.
I dont share my connection
This is my first try of LW.
Ive never downloaded anything using lw yet :(

My friends (We are in the same network,we all connect to the internet through this network) who have windows XP they have no problems they can search and find and dwnload things. We can not use any other p2p programmes because our ports are closed i think. But they can use LW. Bu i cant i dont know why

Try something else. Let's try Cabos: http://sourceforge.jp/projects/cabos/files/ & downld the SIT file. Cabos-0.5.7-MacOS.sit It'll be interesting to see if you can get results with this one. It's a combo between LW & Aquisition.

hebele December 4th, 2005 08:19 AM

I had tried cabos it can not connect any other clients?

Lord of the Rings December 4th, 2005 08:20 AM

That was quick! How about Aquisition? Sorry ignore that it's not os 9 compatible.

I don't suppose you've considered upgrading to osx

OK back to LW, can you tell us about your option settings under Tools? Have you enabled or disabled Compression & locale preferencing? Do you allow simultaneous searches.

hebele December 4th, 2005 08:25 AM

I think i need uPnP but i dont actually know what it is,
I cant connect gnutella network with cabos

hebele December 4th, 2005 08:28 AM

Ive tried several combinaiton of options..
compression enabled or disabled and other settings

Lord of the Rings December 4th, 2005 08:29 AM

UPnP is Universal Plug & Play which if the router/modem has that ability, allows programs to communicate directly with it to open the necessary ports. Thus no manual port forwarding necessary. This was not introduced until LW 4.2 or 4.4 or so.

I wonder if you could choose a time of day when your friends might not be using LW & try using it then. If such a time exists. The problem as Stief suggested with OS 9 version is it's now quite old & many advances have been made to help with connection in difficult environments. With OS 9 LW you still had to use the Force IP option if you were firewalled. Have you tried it. It's mainly for incoming but it might be something to try. It's under the Tools>Options>Advanced options ...
I do recall it helped a couple of people at university. Try it!!!

hebele December 4th, 2005 08:40 AM

I tried to use LW when others dont use, nothing has changed.
I tried to force ip option with several different port numbers nothing well happened.Which ports should i try? My problem goes on to make me sick

Lord of the Rings December 4th, 2005 08:50 AM

80, 443, 1111, 3500, 4008, 1203, 8080, 10000, 15189, 20282, 22817, 34599, 40475, 64049, 6295, 8360, 19515, 20285, 22091, 25079, 26394, 33307, 33049, 42628.

You need to apply each change & at least disconnect between each one. Then reconnect. Give it a min or so between each one's total disconnect.

The only other option I can think of is using a proxy. But that can be a long patient process. The thing is you can connect, but not search. It has all the markings of being filtered. Such as by your isp or school. Being well connected but giving zero search results suggests filtering by the ...

hebele December 4th, 2005 08:58 AM

thank you for your time to help me let me try these ports now :)
