Can LimeWire 4.12 understand aliases in OS X? Can anybody tell me if there's a way to get LW 4.12 in OS X 10.4 to understand what an alias is, when the alias is in a shared folder but the original file to which the alias points is not in a shared folder?
I have a lot of shareable files scattered around my HD, in folders that also contain other non-shareable files, so I can't share those folders. Specifying e/ shareable file separately in LW's Sharing prefs is not only tedious but also inelegant imho. When I was using LW 4.0 in OS 9, I got around the problem easily by making aliases to all the shareable files and collecting all those aliases in a new folder, and listing the new folder as a shared folder in LW. This worked; people were able to dl files from me based on the aliases to them, and I'm 99% sure the files they received were the orig. files and not just the aliases.
But now in LW 4.12.3 in OS X 10.4, the files represented by the aliases in my shared folder full o' aliases are no longer recognized as shared files.
Is this a lost feature of LW or is it about OS X dealing w/ aliases differently than OS 9 did? |
