free DVD converting/burning software for OS X

Can anybody help me?

I am trying to convert some AVI files to DVD. Is there any free software availble to do this? I have found loads for windows but the only one I can find for MAC is Toast, which you have to pay for.

Thanks,

Try MPeg Streamclip. http://www.squared5.com/
You would want to convert to TS. But you would still have the problem of burning it. It needs to be burnt in UDF format which OSX does not have the ability to do. There are some free mac burner programs but the ones I tried were a bit rubbishy. I haven't tried them recently though. I use Toast for burning.

Thanks once again LOR!

I now have toast on my mac but have discovered that my mac mini is not capable of burning DVDs...

I dont suppose anybody has a rough idea of how much it would cost or how easy it is to get a burner installed or add an external one?

Cheers!

That's why apple sell those mini macs for ***** because they are missing the important features such as dual layer burners, disk speed ( should be 7800 rpm ).

A burner can be installed internally or externally.

To install a burner externally you need to buy an "enclosure". It is best to purchase a combo USB/Firewire enclosure. They cost about 85 bucks in Canada.

I have discovered that the dual layer LG burners are the best.

Therefore a burner plus an enclosure would cost you about $125.
