Angry download files are in different format

I waited one and a half hours for a 700,000+KB mpeg to download, go to open it up, and it's not an mpeg! and i can't open it!! why does this happen, it's not the first time and it's VERY aggrivating!

Default files

shorten the file name and put ".mpg" at the end of it, then open it

Question codecs

well maybe its just a mpg file that is not supported on mac... or the file is simply corrupt.
I've had lot of movie files not working until i installed some codecs or used VCDgear on them...

does it have a quicktime symbol? try to download some codecs like mpg4 and newest indeo (maybe thats done automatically) or try the file on a Pc....

Default Fixing ID tags

Limewire document fix and/or fixing wrong ID tagw

A brilliant guy named bink has posted this solution. I've tried it and it works great! Go to the following link and download the free trial of MP3 Rage. It works on more than just MP3s!

http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/3847

Start up MP3 Rage. Choose a file of the same type as you want to correct (like .sit for a StuffIt document). Drop it onto the top button on the Rage console (which says "Display and Edit MP3 File Tags").

In the upper right-hand corner of the next window, you'll see the file name, then two windows labeled Type and Creator.

Write down the correct Type and Creator. Close the dialog box.
Drag the Limewire document onto the top button of the Rage console ("Display and Edit").

Change the Type and Creator boxes. (For StuffIt, Type is SIT5 and Creator is SIT!). Yes, use the exclamation point.

Click "Update". The dialog box says there are no tags in the file. Click the option "Delete Tags."

Voila! The file is fixed and will open with StuffIf like normal.
You can also use MP3 Rage to convert MP3s to AIFF for burning CDs!

Default

If you got a 700MB file in 1 1/2 hours you did good...

If it's a movie, it's almost certain to be a Divx avi file. Go to [http://doctor.3ivx.com] and download Divx Doctor, and see how you get on. Just launch the Doctor and drag your movie file into the window. Don't bother making standalone movies or decompressing sound. The Doctor will create a .mov file which reads from the original avi. Best of luck
