You might need to get a fresh gnutella.net file. The preferences folder for OS 9 is found at: Macintosh HD/System Folder/Preferences/.limewire .. if you list it into list view you should find the folder at or near the top of the preferences folder.

To find a fresh gnutella.net file, see either bottom of this post: If LW 4 Will Not Connect (click on the blue link) or else, here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/343558-post10.html

You 'should' have a gnutella.net file inside the LW preferences folder. If not, put the one you downloaded into the .limewire folder. ;) Replace if it asks you to replace an older gnutella.net file. :)

I might even need to post a different gnutella.net file for you since the much later version LW's will not allow the much earlier LW's to connect to them.

yes that link would be needed i was unable to fully download off the link provided. is there a version old enough for my version of LW. if not i guess i will just have to go and buy osx.

when attempting to download it tells me "unknown zip header format encountered, this operation cannot continue" i am assuming as you stated "my version is to old.

uh ... try the 2nd link I gave above. Problem with OS 9 browsers are they are out of date nowadays & they cannot cope with many of the new sites. That's what I found anyway.

LW 4.0.7 Basic on OS 9 started up fine & quickly for me. I can give you a copy of that gnutella.net file. I was wrong btw, I was connected to the newest versions of LW 5 so ignore what I said earlier. But it is true you will not be able to download from users with versions newer than 4.16. (I use 4.16 most of the time.)

Do you have stuffit expander? I can stuff a gnutella.net file for you. Either the OS 9 version or 4.16 version.

yes i do have stuff it expander

One is ordinary SIT file, other two are SITX files. ONLY add these to the LW preferences folder whilst LW is closed.

OS 9: Download - ifile.it ___ LW 4.16: Download - ifile.it ___ LW 5: Download - ifile.it
These all should work, but try the OS 9 one first. To download, click on link, click on Request Download Ticket at top left of page, likewise top left click Download link.

In OS 9, I found it best to set LW not to connect on startup. I'd open LW, let the shares & incomplete files load, wait a few minutes, then go to File menu & choose Connect.
