Why don't I see the player anywhere on my LimeWire?

I posted this somewhere else, but I decided to put it out as a thread... I've read the FAQ's several times and I still can't seem to find something to help me with this problem. I can't even see the player anywhere in anything in my LimeWire. I can download the files just fine, but I can't play them! How can I fix this? What should I do? I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times, even getting all of the LimeWire stuff off my HD and then going to the website and starting all over. Help, please!

Players?

If you want to play the file(s) you downloaded;
1. double-click the file you want to play, or
2. highlight the file you want to play from library>shared (if this is where you store your downloaded files), and click "launch" at the bottom of your window.
If you want to play the incomplete file(s), again, highlight the file, and click "launch". You can do this either in the search window or in the library window.

FYI, LW does not come with a player. It usually uses QT or iTunes to open the files.

I've double clicked and tried using the launch button until my fingers were sore - it isn't working.

And this version of LW is supposed to come with a player - when I pull down 'help' and go through all the stuff it all shows that I should have a player...

So how do I get iTunes to play the songs I download if my LW won't?

I was wondering about the same thing, I noticed in 2.3.3 a player is suppose to be included at the bottom right corner of main screen , (I know this from the virtual demo screen on limewire main page .) Any one have the player working ? I am using mac OS 9.1

Thank you

O.K. the problem is unless u have OSX you don't get the LimeWire Mp3 player built in Sooooo
you have to open your mp3 files with a different program.

the above is a quote from another thread

Why has the program grown so much in size if there is no new player?

It should be included in OS9

I'm happy, for now, with iTunes 2
but I also prefer LW 1.7 (which didn't have a player)
over any of the more recent LW's (including LW 2.3.3 Pro)

I'm guessing that you don't like iTunes or iTunes 2(?)

There are several other Mac mp3 players available;
some are free (basic) like iTunes;
but if you want to be able to create special sound tweaks
or make your own (special) mixes,
you will likely have to pay for a player and the extra features.

i have OS9 and just recently downloaded LimeWire. i too was looking all over for the player but couldn't find it. i'm glad i read this before i went insane. it's dumb how the OS9's don't come with the player, the LimeWire program is almost pointless without it. anyways, i already have iTunes on my computer but i can't seem to figure out how to drag the songs into my iTunes to listen to them. can anyone tell me how? thanx a bunch!

If you haven't done it already

Take a look at the Gen/Mac forum threads:

"try to listen to my iTunes" (deanomuller)

& "need iTunes help" (unregistered)

I think it would be handy to have a player built in so you can determine the quality of the file before you finish downloading it , yeah sure you can double click and start up itunes, however to do it right in Limewire would be nice .. Still I ask why no player in OS 9? I have looked at code and the code seems to be there to me..

ok, I have downloads and don't have a player visable anywhere so I guess i don't have one but I have itunes. I just do not understand how to make that transfer. It must be a blonde thing because I can't figure it out at all. Oh my gosh this is frustrating! I just want to use what i downloaded.

Yes I use itunes, however if the player was right on the screen with the limewire dnload window it would be handy. Not as a replacement for itunes just as a way to test the file without running itunes. As for your problem I assume you have set itunes as your default player? Just select the file in the library (shared) folder and hit launch and itunes should start and play it and add it to itunes library. Files do not need to be moved in order to play in itunes, Itunes library simply makes a data list of songs and locations of files so it can find them located in any folder etc.

good luck

Limewire player appears not to exist - so... when the download is complete go to Sherlock and search for the file name, when its found double click on it.
If its already an itunes doc it will open in itunes automatically, otherwise you will get a message telling you "finder needs your attention". Click on finder and it will offer you one or more options for opening the. Click on itunes and... Hey presto!
