Canadian Downloads?

I know that there was a lot of controversy a couple of years ago about p2p downloads in Canada being legal. I haven't heard much about it since then. The last I heard, it was legal to download, but not legal to upload. Is that still the case?

I'm not sure...Maybe do a google search...:rolleyes_2:

Yeah, I went through a couple of pages that turned up in google, but it all dated back to 2004. Pretty old I guess from where we are now :)
I know a lot of people that are into the downloading thing, but the thought of getting sued is really quite scary haha / haven't really crossed their minds.
But I guess if that's the last I heard, I'm assuming that nothing's changed?

There are a few members that read alot about this stuff and know what sites to find out...I'll put the word out and they may know....:rolleyes_2:

Thanks a lot! I was searching it for a long time, and still couldn't find anything that was more recent than 2005. I was just a little curious if I should be spreading the word about the possibility of getting sued.
I've always wondered what the time span is of the downloading, and the warning letter. Do they get the ISP to send you a warning first before suing, or is it just BAM! lawsuit? I've always wondered...
thanks!

Wow, that's really scary!
By the looks of things, they target people that upload and share the videos moreso than the people who actually download them?
So I'm assuming that once that person removed whatever it was, that they were in the clear, and didn't get taken to court.
I'm really worried about this happening to people that I know, but I guess it's the luck of the draw.

In Canada it is still legal to download and the MAFIAA goons cannot sue any of us for uploading
because our courts won't allow the abuses they get away with in the US.

Interesting, with the USA - Australian trade agreement, it included some copyright changes. But previously our courts only dealt with actual piraters who sold the stuff. So I wonder if the courts/legal enforcements here will follow Canada's legacy.

canada downloads.

you are right, it is still legal in canada to download, but illegal to upload. they keep threatening to change the law, but it keeps getting put on the back-burner. thank goodness. the law now says you can download music for your own private listening, but you can not share it with other people or it is copyright infringement. thats why its a sort of gray area in canada , not really enforced.:xirokrotima:
