Starting Connection - Download problems

Hi again, I've just bought a new laptop with Vista on and I've installed LW but I'm not having any luck connecting. The status at the bottom left corner shows Starting Connection. I've opened up the ports, still no change. I've tried connecting whilst both firewall and anti-virus are disabled but again, still no joy. I can't understand why it's doing this. I've checked Java and it is 1.6. I've done a full system anti virus scan, an adaware scan, emptied temporary files just in case. What's left to try now? Please help!!

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98,XP.SP2. )? VISTA
2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall, AVG Free antivirus
3. How much ram? 1024MB
4. Hard Disk space available? 100GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)? Wireless Broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Inventel - Wanadoo/Orange Broadband Wireless
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW4.10.5 Java1.6.0
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Orange
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Your test Worked!
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Other computers on in the house, tried connecting with them both on and off but it has never been a problem before. Other computer is still able to connect to LW.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user? Used this version of LW for a long time, had problems when I rebooted my XP laptop a while back but started working all of a sudden. Same problem with starting again now.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes - it's always there, even when it works.

Interesting.. i'm having the same problem.. vista experts say it is the compatibility problem with limewire.. not sure who at this point.. but would agree that help would be beneficial at this point

You two, try using another p2p client like shareaza (www.shareaza.com), and see if that helps, also, try calling your Isp to say some words to them about it, and try to make prot forwarding (www.portforward.com)

i have a hp windows vista amd x2 processor with 160gbs... when i first installed the limewire program, it was working just fine. A week later I started to have all my green bars; however, when i tried to download songs it only said connecting... it never connected nor does it download the songs. i turned off my windows firewall. didn't work. i added the gnutella port as an exception.. didn't work. i download java 6.1 both online and offline installer. didn't work. reinstalled limewire like 5 times. didnt work. i have basically tried everything this forum has posted, and still i can't seem to download anything... PLEASEEEE HELP

My modem is 2wire. and i have DSL and before i had XP and the downloading was fast and great. The ISP is AT&T... which before was SBC. i also did that website test and guess what.. IT WORKED lol oh and even though there is a brick wall, there was always a connection to download. so i don't know what is happening.

IF there are ANY and I mean ANY suggestions. please help!!!

Yes to everything he said above!!
What's crazy that I've notived is that after each time I try to run LW (beta or any the latest version) My internet connection no longer works. I either have to reboot or unplug my cable modem and plug it back in for it to work. Also, I did have it working for the 1st few days I bought my new laptop. SO any help on this would be awesome!

None of the above suggestions worked. I've had paid out for the latest Limewire and working now. Not a happy bunny. Old version should have worked regardless of how old. I guess this is Limewire's way of making money!
