Limewire won't even start

Ok obviously running vista.

System is brand new and more than meets the minimum requirements.

The "test was successful" thing was fine.

Installed JRE 6. Fine

Everytime I try to start limewire it creates this error log...

Can you supply these details please and could you also add what security you are using...
System details - help us to help you

f4nt0m March 20th, 2007 10:20 AM

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows Vista Build 6000
2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall, Router Firewall
3. How much ram? 2GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 74.6GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Bt voyager 2091
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW=4.13 Java=1.6.0
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Bulldog
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Says "Your test worked"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Experienced
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? If it started, no I wouldn't, cos I know how to forward ports.... :rolleyes_2:

Pretty sure none of that is helpful (apart from maybe the OS bit, which was already posted), but hey, hopefully you know something I don't.

wondering why March 20th, 2007 11:38 AM

I just wanted to see if there was anything else it your specs that was important...
The error report is indicating that there's a corruption in your Java, try uninstalling Java and use the offline installer when you re-install it.....

f4nt0m March 21st, 2007 12:08 PM

Yeah done that. Did it again though just to be sure. Uninstalled, restarted, re-installed. Same error. Then did same for LW, uninstalled, Restarted, re-installed. No joy again.

wondering why March 21st, 2007 03:31 PM

Ok give this a try....
Right-click the Limewire icon and go to properties and change compatability setting to Windows XP or 2000, see if that makes any difference...

f4nt0m March 21st, 2007 10:33 PM

nope no difference, and it's already running with administrative priveleges...... Seems to be having a problem initializing the java engine... very frustrating

wondering why March 21st, 2007 10:55 PM

Far out this Vista stuff is hard to figure out....ok lets see are you running the aero thingy (sorry :o ) I know that people have ran into trouble with limewire and Aero...

6_pac March 21st, 2007 11:00 PM

Hi, just wondering if you d/loaded the "Windows x64 Platform - Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6". That one doesn't work with LW. Make sure it's "Windows Platform - Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6".

Just a suggestion, really don't know:confused:.

wondering why March 21st, 2007 11:03 PM

Cool 6_Pac any suggestions with this Vista is a good one...:rolleyes_2:

f4nt0m March 22nd, 2007 03:39 PM

Not actually thought of the aero thing. Sadly no difference though :(

One day soon, there'll be a lw vista..... till then... p.s. I've rolled back to the basic version of LW, 4.12.11, from what i've seen, less compatability issues with this. If i can get it workin with that, i'll then try going back.

Also 6 Pac, no, got the right version of java etc....

now where's that brick wall????

Grandpa March 22nd, 2007 07:16 PM

Hey 6_Pac

When a person installs the 64bit version of Java the (X86) version is installed also. So theoretically there should be no issue with installing the 64bit Java if you are running a 64bit OS.

OK, thanks Grandpa. It was a shot in the dark  :o :D .

f4nt0m March 24th, 2007 01:54 PM

well, still drawing a blank. Hoping someone somewhere comes up with a version upgrade or a fix that sorts this out cos i think i'm getting withdrawal symptoms.... :bangh:

green_link September 16th, 2007 07:58 PM

not just vista

i don't think it has anything to do with vista. im running XP and im having the exact same problem.:(

im running XP home, 1 GB RAM, 80GB hard drive, intel pentium M Processor @ 1.70 GHz, Java 6

it has to be a java problem. im going to find an earlier version.

LUCKY YOU! I cant get the thing to exit. Every time I switch Limewire Pro off it opens again immediately. Probably yet another gremlin in my system. PC is six years old and FULL of rubbish. Using XP at mo. Have cash set aside for brand spanking new system but waiting for Vista to get its act together first. Putting up with swearing at my screen for now. Doesnt fix anything but makes me feel better.

Yeah, problem is that it says everywhere that for limewire to work on vista, you need java6. Actually got it to start the other day by starting 2 instances of the program, the OS killed the first but left the second running. Only worked the once though, think it was cos of the "first time setup" thing. Still, Ares ftw, use that now... no problems.

JAVA Problem (for me)

About 10 days ago my java software was updated from 1.5.0 update 12 to 1.6.0 update 2. Thought nothing of it. Two days ago I tried to bring-up LimeWire without suggess. Sent the error message to Sun. Found out that when the update occurred, the old version was not completely replaced. I completely uninstalled/deleted both versions and reinstalled the 1.5.0 update 12 version. (Haven't tried reinstalling the update. Bad vibe's.) LimeWire is happy. I'm happy. LG :aweof::dance::aweof::dance:
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5 for ver 1.5.0 update 12.

My problem, my fix. Hope it works for you.

YES! OMG THANK YOU BITBUSTER!:super::xirokrotima::yahoo:

for those who are having the same problem, i installed limewire, which installed version 6, then i uninstalled version 6 and installed runtime 5 update 12 and now it works perfectly.

w00t who'd have thunk it. Java updated j2se 5 to be vista compatible... cheers for that, hadn't checked in ages but thought why not...... all is well again.

My God Thank You! I spent 3 and a half hours with microsoft support becuase I couldnt figure out what made it quit. I have a query already with LW support. I dont understand why it works but it does. thanks

kkeevviinn September 18th, 2007 05:56 PM

except now limewire wont even try to connect to anyone else on the network... It worked great a week ago.. anyone else? I disabled zone alarm, and all firewalls... nothing.. not even any pending connections

kkeevviinn September 18th, 2007 06:20 PM

.... well after another restart back to square one. Vista got rid of the Aero thingy and then LW started, loaded protocol etc and then poof it was gone.. Left only the process.

Pleased to see all is fine.

check programs & Features (Control Panel) To make sure only the 5.0 Update 12 version of java is installed, and the most up to date version of LW.... it'll default to the newer version otherwise.

kkeevviinn September 19th, 2007 12:12 PM

yeah i doubled checked it. I uninstalled 6 first and then installed 5 u 12.

f4nt0m September 19th, 2007 10:51 PM

you getting the same Java error log in program files/limewire folder???

Mine all started with

EXCEPTION_FLT_STACK_CHECK (0xc0000092) at pc=0x010cd0a9, pid=2276, tid=3024

I don't think the numbers were always the same, but you get the idea...

kkeevviinn September 20th, 2007 12:48 PM

yeah and it made another directory folder limewire (101) filled with error logs....

get JRE 5

experiencing the same problem, it is a JRE 6 compatibility issue with Limewire, uninstall JRE 6 and install JRE 5 and it will work, wait for a new java or limewire update.
