Can't get Limewire to work in Vista

I got a new computer with Windows Vista installed. I was able to succesfully download Limewire Pro, but when I try to run it it messes up my internet connection. I cannot get anything to download form Limewire and when I try to open Interent explorer I can't get a an internet connection. I tired diabling my Mcafee firewall but that didn't help. I also tried changing the setting on Limewire to XP Service Pack 2 compatibility but that didn't help either. Any suggestions?

Are you using Java 1.6? You'll need to.
Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version before you install the new one.

Lots of people have had trouble with McAfee.

halfcent,
Is your LW not connected at all, or is it just that you're seeing the firewall icon?

Have you made sure that LW's allowed thru the Vista firewall?
Your router has a firewall...see if port forwarding helps. Here are the instructions for your router.
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...GR614index.htm

Don't forget to set up a static IP address first. Also remember that LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded thru a router must all be the same number;)

Let us know if that helps at all.

1. Reinstall Java. Use the JRE offline installer, remove your current version before you install the new one.

2. Delete LW's preferences folder. See point 3 below.
Fixes for LimeWire

3. Reinstall LW & make sure to use the offline installer (not the recommended one).

i had the same problem with vista for days was going crazy but if you have macafee i have a fix go to control panel and go to add and remove programs on my pc its programs and features go to macafee click it you have to remove the firewall spam killer and privacy service then restart when i did that limewire finnally worked and at turbo charged settings you should still have a windows firewall if you need a firewall but i have mine turned off right now

Hey everyone:

I have a new hp notebook with Vista windows. I have used limewire pro for years. No problems. Now, I can't get the brick to move for anything. Here's what I'm working with:

1. OS: Windows Vista Home Pro
2. Firewall: Windows (OFF) Zone Alarm (UNINSTALLED) NORTON's 2007 (ON)
3. RAM: 2 GIG
4. Hard Drive: 160 GIG
5. Connection Type-DSL
6. Modem: ??? Came with service/ wireless net card in notebook
7. Wireless Router: Linksys G series
7. Connecting: From Home
8. Java: ??? Not sure where to look for it.
9. ISP Provider-Fairpoint.net
10. Test Worked
11. Tried to make it share, again, not sure???
12. Limewire is installed
13. Yes I See A Brick Wall, no cannot download!! ugh!

Sorry to seem so lame, but this used to be a breeze! Also, do I have to dump Zone Alarm to get limewire to work?
