Cant Gain Limewire Connection-any help appreciated

I just got a new Dell Inspiron E1505 today with Windows Vista Premium Home Edition. I already uninstalled Mcafee and downloaded Norton AntiVirus software. I downloaded Java 6 and have plenty of memory on the computer (2GB). I have disabled firewalls and done everything I can think of to get a connection, but nothing is working. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Thanks a lot

Might be your router has a firewall in it, or maybe your isp's to blame.

Need your system details: System details - help us to help you

I am at college and running on their ethernet connection that goes to my dorm room.

1. OS version? WINDOWS VISTA
2. What firewalls you have? NORTON ANTIVIRUS, WINDOWS VISTA
3. How much ram? 2,046MB
4. Hard Disk space available? A LOT
5. Connection type? ETHERNET-BROADBAND
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from? SCHOOL
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? 4.12.11, JAVA 6
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? WORKS
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. SCHOOL ETHERNET CONN.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. WORKED ON XP, NOT ON NEWLY INSTALLED VISTA COMPUTER
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface YES I DO

Schools are well known to block p2p file sharing programs. Try asking around and see if anyone else is able to connect. You may be able to connect to other computers on campus. Best bet is probably just to ask someone in administration.

You could try changing ports. See Aaron's advice in this thread: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...69&#post250969

Or you could try setting a proxy: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showpo...3&postcount=11

I have always been able to get onto Limewire at school. I was connected to it today on my old laptop. I dont think it can be the school. It must involve Vista or the Virus software. I am really at a loss here.

Does anyone have any ideas? I really would hate to have to switch to switch to a worse program like Mp3 rocket or Morpheus.

wondering why March 21st, 2007 04:39 PM

Maybe Noton is becomming a problem like McAfee is....Or it's got something to do with Windows defender ???
I reckon you try playing around with the security you have at the moment, the answer may lay in there....

If you do find out what it is please let us know so we can help others...

Some recommended freebie AV's and Spyware Apps....
