technically stupid (how to use LW with Vista)

I am really not a techically capable person...If someone talks me thru a process then I am fine...but when figuring something out on my own, there is something that goes WRONG. so, what I am asking for is help...I am a windows vista (read here : terrible) consumer, and I bought this brand spanking new gateway laptop primarily to download and burn music with...so after 3 months of having it and only encountering problems with many music download sites ~ I found that limewire is VISTA-CAPABLE!!! so if anyone could help me and email me a detailed list of exactly what i need to do to be able to use limewire please help me out!!! :w00t:
thanks,
Meg

system details

Sorry it took me so long to respond to this post ~ I have been working ridiculous hours :) so in any case, here are my system details as per the link you sent me:
1. OS Version: Windows Vista 2007
2. What firewalls you have? : McAfee (came pre-installed)
3. How much ram? : I am not sure, I don't know how to check it
4. Hard Disk space available? : I am not sure, I don't know how to check
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) : cable hi-speed
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? : Modem is a Motorola SB5100 / router is a Netgear Rangemax Wireless Router model # WPN824v2
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? : house primarily, but at work as well (which is a hotel)
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. : I uninstalled LimeWire because it was trying to connect every time I turned on my computer, and then the connection speed to the internet was zero
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? : Comcast
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? : It says "Your Test Worked!!"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. : NO, not at the same time that I am using this laptop. The reason being the other computer in my household is a 98 HP and it cannot connect to my router. So in order to have my computer work, the other cannot be online and vice versa.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. : This is my first attempt at limewire with my new computer, but I have used LW many times with other computers before.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? : Because I uninstalled the LW program, I no longer have a LW icon.

So there are most of the questions answered, and I will be checking this post again for your answers. Thank any and all of you that have volunteered to help people like me :)

Ok Meg$$...I see a few problems as to why you are having troubles with limewire..

1. McAfee, you will need to follow the advice of this poster...
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/258193-post45.html

2. Your Router has a Nat Firewall and you will need to Port forward...
These are your instructions...
Port Forwarding for the Netgear WPN824v2

3. Your ISP (Comcast are known to block certain ports, but port forwarding may fix this)...;)

wow

well ~ it was a long and arduous process for a non-technical person like me ~ but the links you gave me for port forwarding and whatnot worked perfectly!!!! I am currently running lime wire and my internet speed is still really fast !!! it only took me 15 seconds to download a song ~ I am amazed and truly grateful...thank you so much for your help I could not be happier :xirokrotima:
