LW crashing when starting

My problem is that Limewire just crash;s right after the loading splashscreen loads with no error.

The only erros i'm able to find are the crash logs within limewire.

I've already tried re-installing the the lastest version and the beta's, i've also re-installed Java several times i've tried enabling/disabling my firewall/anti-spyware ect... softwware, i've even added it to the DEP list due to previous versions requiring it to bed added.

This erro log just continues to create more log files everytime i try and open Limewire

Did you use the offline installation for Java 1.6? Also, try deleting the preference folder and see if that helps.

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html

Good Luck

Yes i also used the offline installation, and that link to the Perf only works if you have a set of Prefernces/options customized in an application therfore there is no such file since Limewire will not even load(meaning a previous installation that did work).

and yes i even tried but only programs that have data with personal options will show up(if the program can work and load up)

mind you this is a brand new install of Vista so the folder wouldn't have existed either.

wondering why May 16th, 2007 03:14 AM

I googled your error and found this, it's not related to limewire but still the same type of thing...
Ignite Realtime Forums: Spark 2.5.2 Crashing From JAVA errors - ...

So check to see if you have any other Java apps installed on your comp and if you have uninstall them...
The last post was interesting give that ago as well...

You should also see if you can get any advice from the Java site...;)

Valus May 16th, 2007 04:29 PM

Well I checke dthe Link, The error that those people are having are completly different then mine

"EXCEPTION_FLT_STACK_CHECK (0xc0000092) at pc=0x022ace69, pid=46044, tid=46212"

they are getting

"EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x00000000, pid=1776, tid=3912"

they also mention a program called spark and something about 2 sound devices, when your running some other program using sound then starting up spark.

the two seem completely unrelated, As for other programs that use Java, thats not so easy, it's hard to tell what is and what isn't.

not to mention this is pretty much a fresh install almost nothing is on i can pretty much name everything i have installed

IE7(uses Java)
Fraps(might use java)
WMP11(java plugins in the background when browing the web with it)
Windows live one care
Battlefield 2142(just installed last night so not the probelm since i wa sgetting this error prior)
MSN Messenger newest version(uses Java)
newest YIM (uses Java)
Trillian (uses Java)
SB Creative Driver Platform
ATI Driver Plateform
Limewire
(basic windows vitsa installed componets)
warcraft 3 Frozen Throne
Starcraft
LoliFox

just a few more that i would need to check.

I've noticed this happens now after a fresh install of Vista, Because i have 4 other Vista Ultimate systems that do the same thing

My Media Server, 2 Laptops, and My Work Machine.

Now Regarding JAVA i did submit a report since they have no record in their database with this type of error i was also informed that this error is most likely more of the Program and not their software and that i need to seek technical support from the so-called company since it's not something they have made.

Meaning since JAVA did not make Limewire but Java was used in the Production of Limewire that it is more along the lines of something With Limewire and it's coding.

wondering why May 16th, 2007 05:59 PM

It's hard to say if it is Limewire or something in your set up that is causing this, as there are many Vista users that can run limewire without a problem...

What Graphics device are you using ??

Beatisha21 May 16th, 2007 06:18 PM

so is there any way to get around this situation

I've already tried re-installing the the lastest version and the beta's, i've also re-installed Java several times i've tried enabling/disabling my firewall/anti-spyware ect... softwware, i've even added it to the DEP list due to previous versions requiring it to bed added.

This erro log just continues to create more log files everytime i try and open Limewire

I also have windows vista.

wondering why May 16th, 2007 06:23 PM

We don't know yet, we're still trying to figure out the problem....

Valus May 16th, 2007 06:41 PM

You have to take into COnsideration what Version of vista they are Using because just like XP, XP home and PRO were 2 different OS's regardless because of certain key features.

Same that goes with Vista now there are like 6 Versions of Vista.

this version of Vista might run this program but this version might not.

Now My GPU is an ATI X1800XT PCI-E

now several of my XP systems work completly fine with the new and beta Versions(but thats XP).

I know it has to be something with Limewire because a Previous Version I used worked completly fine, But it was a Version that was not supported by Vista, I no longer have that .exe file due to several formats and the fact that the site only host's the newest release and Beta.

If i could find out what version it was i would go back to that Pre-Vista Version release that actualy worked.

It is possible too that some windows updates might have broken something in Your Program but thats something limewire will have to find if so.

or maybe something with the newest Java.

Grandpa May 17th, 2007 11:05 PM

And it may also be driver issues both ATI and NVidia are having problems with there drivers for Vista. And seeing how it is crashing when the splash screen appears there is a decent chance it has to do with the graphic drivers.

Valus May 18th, 2007 01:09 PM

As for ATI's and Nvidia's Drivers thats doubtfull maybe possibly along the lines of Nvidia Otherwise ATI's Drivers where stable on the release of Vista with the exception of 7.3cat, on the other hand Nvidia Claimed they had vVista rdy drivers but actualy never did they are still dealing with Beta for whatever reasons.

But even on XP the new cat drivers work fine so maybe it is a combination of Vista and the new LImewire.

This i could see because a previous version of limewire worked fine pre-vista release.

Now regarding the splash screen The splash screen goes by fine it's right after that when LW loads up the interface it just close's down, to be more percise it varies around the time the pop up comes up with the upgrading to pro or continue to use, sometiems i'm able to get past that pop up other times i am not, and it's not the pop-up itself, it just normaly shutsdown within 30seconds of loading.

as soon as i double click the .exe the splash screen comes up then after the the interface loads then somtimes i have enough time to click on continue to use his version and sometiems i don't. then thats when the whole program just shuts down without any errors.

Now the Video card/drivers wouldn't play a role unless there was something in the coding which was causing the vid card to crash or lock-up, but with vista's new ability to reset the video driver you rarely ever get any blue screen from video card/driver failure unless it's a complete lock up and the system must reboot

or the program itself, also this would moreso be a hardware/driver issue not relating to

but then again it would point to that specifi program, because if it's with Java in General then it would be either the Vid card, Java or the two combined.

This also wouldn't make sense due to so many other programs using splash screens that run completly fine, if it was something with splash screen it would happen more so accross the board but it doesn't.

there for it points more towards either Java or Limewire or a combination of the two.

Well your assumptions of LimeWire having problems with Vista you are wrong. The only problem I have ever had with LimeWire on Vista was when Beta1 came out I had to install Java 6. And I have been running Vista and LimeWire since the first release of Vista Betas. (Every version of LimeWire on both 32bit and 64bit version of Vista) I am currently running (4.13.4 beta)

Some where along the line there is a driver issue in your set up or Java is not installed properly. (Most Common) but from your previous post I assume you know what you are doing and have installed it properly.

So my advice would be if you know Java is installed properly start uninstalling software and hardware drivers until you find the problem.

LimeWire works with no problems on 5 different computers running Vista in my house and on allot of computers throughout the world running Vista.

Valus May 18th, 2007 09:51 PM

So because your not having any problems your assuming there are none????

Thats real smart,

and your forgetting what i said several times b4, The Pre-Vista Versions of Limewire worked completly fine these new Versions do not work,

And there are several problems with Vista, theres compatibility with Aero, there's random infinite type loop errors when Admin rights is enabled.

Again because you are not experincing them does not mean they do not exist, that is the point of a beta release too, to test and get the bugs out of software before an actual release.

If there where no such problems then there would be no need for a "beta"

Now in regards to Drivers you seem to be bent on it being a "Driver" issue, now explain to me how several different systems using several different types of Drivers all have the exact same type of problem???

My Personal system
MSI K8 Neo 4 PE
AMD 64 X2 3800+
2gigs ram
1x300Gig SATA 300
Logitech g15
Razor Copperhead
SB X-Fi Fatality EXtreme Gamer Pro
X1800XT

4 Server systems Transport GT20 (B2865) - 3 Vista Ultimates, 1 Home Server Beta
Parts ranging from
AMD Dual Core Opteron 165, and 175
with 2gigs ECC ram each
1-4 500gig SATA 300
1-2x PCI 10/100/1000 Nic

1 Latop
Enpower 630
Intel Chipset 945iGm
1gig Ram
80gig SATA 300
G15 Logitech
Razor Cooperhead

Now explain how all these systems coud have the exact same problem let me know what Driver would be the same across the board on all of these.

Since your not having any of my problems why don't you explain to me what your systems specs are.

also needing to update your JAVA would not be considered a problem.

so what your trying to tell me is that Because since you and the rest of the world have no problems there are none is what it comes down too?

and that my problems must be a fluke along with the other poster and several other people i personaly know that are having this problem?

errorcauser May 18th, 2007 11:31 PM

I'm having exactly the very same problem, to the point that i've near gave up on trying to get it to run.

Valus May 18th, 2007 11:37 PM

yea i'm in the same boat as you, the only reason why I actualy even signed up on this forum was maybe to get some help after several weeks of getting annoyed, i'm sure that when more people start coming forward they'll see it's not just "me" with this so-called problem since i was like the only one who posted, yet there are more then just me now posting about it too.

edit, I actualy was able to find a 4.12.8/11 installer yet still didn't work i know it had to have been older then that one because i really don't update much. ughgugugug

When I was fighting with it to get it to work, I read from one end to the other of this forum for something to point to the problem, but found nothing. I don't know what the problem is, but I suspect Limewire itself, or a permissions problem within Vista itself. After going to my wits end with it, I've just gave up. You name it, I've tired it. Installed and uninstalled every version of java I could get my paws on, ran Limewire in every compatibility mode listed, ran it as Admin, UAC on, UAC off. It opens, then closes, that's all I get for my viewing pleasure.

Valus May 18th, 2007 11:56 PM

i agree with you, It's just irritating, check your logs though to make sure your getting the same error log that i am, if your not and your still having this issue it would suggest that theres more then one things causing this problem, if you hvae the same error log as me then it's something specific.

I've also done the same as you, except for the UAC(didn't feel it was worth it if admin rights didn't allow it doubted disabling UAC would).

this is some serious weaksauce

Back to the loonie farm i go for even fooling with this ...:shoot:

Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 Motherboard, and all that goes along with that.

AMD 64 2X 4200+

7300GT Video card

320 Gig SATA

Using onboard Realtek audio, latest drivers.

Point me to the problem driver, i'll remove it, and watch Limewire open, then close. :PEACE:

Now there are 5 of my personal computers that are running Vista and LimeWire with no problems all different configurations. So just because you are having problems doesn't mean everybody is. (In fact most Are Not)

The one common thing I see on your set up is SATD drives. And I see you are using a Razor Mouse. I do remember a while back some post from people having trouble with LimeWire and having a conflict with there aftermarket mouse.

haha nice, so yea are you using an AM2 cpu?? otherwise from all of that we dun have any related driver hahaha.

Very Interesting indead i think the whole it's a driver problem went out the window.(not to mention it already did just with my different systems i have). We are probbaly boned until a new version that comes out taht will address our problem, that or Java, ugh guess i'll continue to look for one of those old version.

Hopefully we can get a real answer soon.

edit.

So your saying the SATA controller Driver is causing a problem???

if that was the case wouldn't it cause a problem with everyone(your also foregtting that each one of my systems is using a Different Chipset menaing Differnt Drivers per Sata Controller)

And only 2 of my machines are using the Razor driver so that again isn't consistant.

You also have no Vista Ultimate 32bit.

Grandpa May 19th, 2007 12:38 AM

I was running 32 bit on computer #1 with LimeWire for a while with no problem. And as I have said before I have run every version of LimeWire on Vista since the first Vista beta. Which version of LimeWire are you looking for.

Yes sir, AM2 socket.

2 Gig DDR2 800Mhz

I use, and have always used the default PS2 mouse driver that's installed by Windows. I'm running Vista Business by the way.

Grandpa May 19th, 2007 12:43 AM

I see both of you are using SATA on Vista may be the problem may not be.

errorcauser May 19th, 2007 12:52 AM

I can't freakin believe it, but it is a driver, and i found it. :xeri_ok1ani:

Valus, do you have alcohol 120 installed ?

Azureus closes immeaditely after opening

After reading that again, maybe it's a problem with "AxShlex.dll" ? Grandpa had me steaming mad at drivers, so after removing Alcohol 120 Limewire now works, and I just suspected the virtual drive driver. Maybe not. But I'll sure look into this closer. I've been trying to get this to work forever without luck, until now.

Update:

Reinstalled Alcohol 120, but renamed "AxShlex.dll" to "AxShlex.dll.OLD".
My Limewire is still working. So, I've found what was killing it for me. Working fine now.

Grandpa May 19th, 2007 01:26 AM

Thanks for the info errorcauser it will be helpful in the future.

errorcauser May 19th, 2007 01:28 AM

I assume that's fixed your problem as well Valus, you've signed out and not returned. I want to thank you for even starting this thread, because true enough, I'd gave up on getting Limewire to work. And I want to thank Gandpa for prodding me along. Thanks, to the both of you. :aweof:

Valus May 19th, 2007 12:12 PM

haha i found a fix but it was with Java/Limewire

and i had to pick up my wife from a party thats why i logged didn't get bakc home till 4am,

anyways,

what i did was I un-installed JAVA completly from my system and let Limewire install it's version of Java and bam it works.

I then uninstalled Limewire/Java and re-installed Java 6 and limewire again and same issues.

I also found that installing a Torrent Program also correct Limewire and makes it run.

Previously none of my systems had any torrent download program, I Decided to install Bitcomet, and what do you know after installing bitcomet with Limewire/Java 6 install Limewire happens to work(sort of).

I then uninstalled Bitcomet and bam stopd working again.

And i also tested your issue with Alcohol 120, I have the same results as if it weren't instaleld if i run the same test again.

As of right now,

Java 5.03(which Limewire installs) works,

Java 6 with Limewire doens't

If i donwload any version of Java from Java itself it also doesn't work(even the 5.03).

Java 6 with Bitcomet installed Partialy works(2 of my servers work fine with it though)

All have same results with Alchohol 120 installed or not installed.

Now did you install Azureus prior to Limewire working or after it working?

Becaus ei have the impression that there is someting within these programs that correct limewire into working

Also "Azureus does not work when Alcohol is installed"

No no, I've never had Azureus installed. I only posted that link for referencing the bottom two replies on that page. I have however installed Bit Comet at one time or another, but uninstalled it. I do have utorrent installed.

All I know is, I seen what was posted on the page that I posted the link to, and uninstalled Alcohol and nearly fell over in the floor and turned blue when I opened Limewire and it stayed open.

I've been wrestling with it for sometime, and never pinpointed it to Alcohol being the problem. I can tell you that Bit Comet WILL cause a cascading effect running it under Windows XP when you visit the Windows Update page. On the right hand side of your browser window, it'll open the same thing several times when visiting Windows Update making Windows Update useless. It's the BHO that Bit Comet installs, remove it, and Windows Updates works as it should under Windows XP.

Anyway, im sure glad you found some sort of solution. Thanks man !

Grandpa May 19th, 2007 01:24 PM

WELL WELL WELL VALUS

It appears that if you would have taken my advice a few post back you could have solved your problem much sooner. Thanks for letting us know it was a bad Java install. And by the way Java 6 works fine with LimeWire on Vista if it installs properly. I run Java 6 on all of my computers. :xeri_ok1ani:

Grandpa

Valus May 19th, 2007 03:17 PM

umm did you even read my post????

The installs of Java are fine, Every other program works the only program that doens't work is Limewire which for some reason will only work with the Java 5.03 which Limewire itself installs.

Now the reasoning i've been getting from you guys if it works with everything else then its that one thing.

And according to that reasoning then it would be Limewire again.

and let me explain again since somehow you completly did not get my post b4.

if i go to JAVA's website and Download Any Version from their site, whether it's online/offline installation Limewire does not work.

How ever when i Install Limewire and let Limewire install it's Version of Java, Limewire works.(this would suggested a modified Java or Outdated Version of Java that Java does not have[or more so they updated they're version of 5.03] menaing thats why it works)

Now also if i was to install Java 6 from JAVA, and install Limewire, It will not work, But on 2 of my systems if i were to install bitcomet then limewire will work, which suggest that there is some modified file that both programs use but Bitcomet updates that allows the program to function Properly.

Now i'm my Machine when i try this, i'm able to get past the splash screen, and then the Setup menu appears, asking me about where i want the save file directory and what Bandwidth speed i have, once i finish setting this up then the program crash's again.

Now with bit comet not installed i never got the Prefernce thing to come up, limewire woiuld crash before that would ever come up.

Now in all likely hood the reaosn why theres not alot of people having this problem is due in part to them not having Java 6 installed and that Limewire install it's Version which then would install the 5.03 and thus no problem like this.

Also i have not tried updating my version of Java to JAVA 6 now to see if Limewire will continue to work.

If i do Upgrade to Limewire 6 and it stops working again then Limewire is not compatible with Java 6, OR..... there is a Posibilty that there is a conflict with yoru software and some other program with JAVA 6.

I'll update Java 6 now and see what happens.

Valus May 19th, 2007 03:28 PM

Figures Updating to Java 6, makes Limewire stop working again weaksauce.

So since you say Limewire works fine with Java 6 then there is a Conflict with a Program most likely in Java 6.

Now conisdering If every other program works fine with Each other in Java 6 and Limewire is the only one having an issue among these program wouldn't that fall into compatibility issue???

Edit,

just un-installed Java 6 and bam works fine again, well there you have it.

I guess the problem lies in a conflict on your machines between LimeWire and some other software/Hardware you are running. As you can see in the image attached below it works fine on my machine/machines.

Valus May 20th, 2007 11:21 AM

haha yoru not even running the Latest Version of Java

the Version i was running and reffering to would be the one they post on the website JAVA(TM) SE Runtime Evervironment 6 Update 1.

maybe i should have gotten more detailed either way thats what Java want's you to d/l.

But problem is somewhat solved anyways

It will do as is until i need to use a program that Requires the newest Java

thanks all

Peace

cathodraytube June 15th, 2007 07:48 PM

The Tube has returned. with useful (so i think) info.

i havent posted on here for atleast a year or 2 now...i kinda forgot about this place for some reason...anyway i think i know the true cause of this problem as iv been having the same issues...

1 word.. ALCOHOL... alcohol is the root of this problem... alcohol 120% that is..it has something to do with the virtual drives and the drivers that emulate them screwing with java...it also causes azureus to crash intermittently too, wich is also a java app... if you uninstall alcohol120% it should all work fine...

i dont know how to fix the problem but im allmost positive that thats the cause of it and not java or limewire themselfs.

dmsuperman June 17th, 2007 06:28 PM

I registered only for this purpose. I got the exact same error, on XP on 2 systems, with SATA in one and IDE in another, intel cpus.

Both LimeWire and FrostWire crashed right after the loading screen. Literally after reading this, I tried running it, it failed, I renamed AxShlex.dll, re-ran it and it worked. That is precisely what it is, though I have NO idea why the hell that would do it, especially since the .dll wasn't even in use at the time. Anyway, thanks for finding the fix :D You've caused me much relief, this was seriously getting on my nerves. Now let's hope Alcohol 120% still runs, though Daemon Tools will suffice for now if it doesn't.

cathodraytube June 17th, 2007 08:04 PM

OMFG it works...

i renamed AxShlex.dll located in the alcohol program folder...and now limewire starts and runs fine...

but now "mount image" is gone from the context menu on my virtual drive...but alcohol itself still seems to start and run OK, havent tryed to burn anything with this DLL missing yet..

as soon as i name the file back to normal...i can mount/unmount ISOs again...but limewire phucks up immediately after starting again...

IDK WTF is going on but renaming this file (or maybe just moving it will work the same way) is easer than uninstalling alcohol every time i want to download something...

dmsuperman June 17th, 2007 08:07 PM

Agreed, make a batch file to replace the shortcut to LimeWire that renames it then one to name it back and we'll be at 90% smoothness of having it work as it should :D
