Also it will work on the administrator profile but not any others and since my dad wont let me used the adminstrator profile i dont know what to do....Any help would be appreciated Thanks, Superdoor |
Limewire has to be installed by an Administrator...If your Dad won't let you have that privilege ask him to create you a short cut for your account... Could you also supply these details please... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...-you-post.html |
Ya that hasnt helped it sitll will only work once after being installed and never again what do i do? |
Hmmm... You started this thread with the title, "ahhh vista"... You have told us a lot about hardware and absolutely nada about your Operating System software ! Is it Vista ? If so, get rid of the Vista as your absolute number 1 priority. Then carry on with installing and enjoying LimeWire, OK ? You 99% sure are suffering, as are millions of others, from the gobsh ite 'protection' features of Vista. (Which is an interesting concept, 'protection' I mean, as Vista is probably the world's greatest bit of spyware.) |
I am not getting rid of Vista just because of limewir it is an excellent operating system and this limewire problem is the only one i have faced! Ohh and computers need Operating systems so im told |
Superdoor I am not a Vista user and I will not say what you should or should not use but it occurs to me that an O/S, any O/S for that matter, is only there to convey instructions from your applications to your PC. In other words, the apps are important and the O/S is just there to make sure that nothing prevents the application from carrying out its legitimate task. I think that for marketing purposes MS has made the O/S, i.e. latest version of windows, all important in most peoples minds when in fact it is a “means to and end”, not the “be all and end all”. Saying all that, we have to accept that we now live in a world dominated by adverts, marketing and hype it’s just a pity that things like “facts” and “truth” gets lost along the way. UK Bob |
Im not going to get into an arguement over the internet(the most pointless thing since unsliced bread) but i still need something to run my computer! :D And i still need a way to use limewire without uninstalling Vista! (My dad the dinosaur says he worked with DOS and he can assure you operating systems do make a difference! :) ) |
Superdoor You know, I always thought that the internet was only second to the wheel as the best thing ever invented. For example, without the internet there would be no cheap or reasonable way we could communicate with this forum. Plus, with all the information readily available on the internet it makes it more difficult for politicians (and their media friends) to lie to us, though some of them still try to. And, like your dinosaur Dad, I too have worked with DOS and I do understand that having an O/S that takes care of all the hard things does make a difference but it is still the application that makes a PC worth having. Anyway now to your problem, ask your Dad to install a second hard drive in your PC (a "D" drive), I would now suggest that your Dad makes your machine a dual boot machine with Vista on the "C" drive and XP in the "D". Install LW under XP on the "D" drive, this should now sort your problem out. UK Bob |
ummm....this probably won't work...you pretty much have to install the oldest OS first, then the newer one second...soooo, no matter what drive the OS's reside on (that makes no difference), you will need to wipe drives, install XP first, then install Vista... |
Peerless I must admit, I did not realise it mattered which O/S was installed first only that certain procedures were followed. UK Bob |

Try uninstalling your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version.... Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11 If that does not help with your problem try deleting your limewire preference folder... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html |
Ehh tried both of those and neither worked! What do i do? |
Me talk DOS, too ! In fact, me talk Q-DOS ! I know what I am talking about here... Sure, you may be able to get LW running OK via Vista... So what ? Vista is garbage. MY first comp (purchased) was a DIGITAL PDP-8 in 1971... That was interesting... This latest stuff is just study, buy, paste and glue... (Then people come here or elsewhere and complain about what crap a particular Gnutella Client is cuz they've deleted all of their downloads and shared files... "Copy" - "Move" - "Undo..." Wot's dat ?) If your dad talkee the DOS, than he must be able to see how trully invasive and negative Vista actually is... The above is not me gassing on with some ego-trip... Not of any importance to me... I do the Mod stuff here ONLY to make the Gnutella Network better for me ! Selfish, hmmm ? So, maybe you get LW up and running... Next ? What favourite progs of your father WILL NOT RUN on Vista, hmmm ? My reply was only to try to assist you, LONG-TERM ! And, of course you need an OS ! Sugestions, if you want real stability... Windows 2000 Pro SP4 or XP Pro and/or Linux UBUNTU with proper Java installs and regular updates. Short of that, you is in the jungle. Vista is a Spanish word for 'view'... In that same idiomatic vane, Vista is 'oscura' ! Another word, en español, is ------ ¡ MIERDA ! a: exit |
Well Limewire is the only program that hasnt work o Vista....and i'm still standing by what i said, it is an excellent OS, now maybe i think this jsut because i dont know a hell of alot about computers in comparison to u guys, BUt here the thing Vista lts me do everthing i wan(cept LM) easily and quickly and i dont have to know that much about computers, so really which is better an OS were u have to know about the inner workings of the computer exactly or an OS that just works for you? know i guess I'm being to conformist and going with the big company but whatever you say the only advantage of using an outdated OS is so you can brag about having it and i really dont want to brag! Now i really have screwed up my chances of getting help now havent i! :) |
Not at all....No-one has the right to tell you what OS to run and just because someone doesn't like Vista there are many others that do..It's a known fact that Vista and Limewire will work together (with a little fine tunning) ;) So now we have all of that bullsh*t out of the way we will go back to trying to get you up and running.... Now will you please supply the details about your set up that I asked you to provide earlier... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...-you-post.html |

Ace, Please remove your personal E-Mail Address. You might not want to put that out for everyone to see. |
Ace are you trying to download Limewire for the very 1st time ? And if so are you on the original website Lime Wire » Official Website & Free Download «. Thats the only place to get the real Limewire. Every thing else are scam sites. Hope this helps. |
soory bout thAt , but ya i have but deletd and now im trying to get the basic limewire bacck and it cant install? |
You can try this. Go to Start > all programs > Limewire uninstall. Thats the correct way to uninstall. After that Go to Start > Search > all files and folders. Type in Limewire Delete anything and everything that comes up. Now you can download Limewire. Also need to check Java version Need to have JRE 1.5.11. or close. |
it works now thanks! |
Woop Wooop Hey so i was away for the weekend and when i got back i turned on Limewire just to see if it works(i was getting desperate) AND hey presto it worked! I ask my dad if he had done anything to the computer and he hadnt, except getting Modzilla Firefox...and now LW works. I wont complain cause its great but one thing this does prove is that computers run by Vista, DOS or even MAcs all work with a bit of un explainable magic :yahoo: |
