Hello I use LW 4.8.1 but uninstalled to try the new beta 4.13.6

I didn't like the beta so went back to 4.8.1 and it won't connect. I have uninstalled and removed all LW folders in app data then reinstalled but it still won't connect.

Check you firewall and make sure the version of LW your using is allowed access through it.

You might need to port forward your router. Try the instructions here: Port Forwarding for the Ambit AB Orion 3000. It might not be the right model but they should be similar.

It's a bit of a hassle to configure the modem.

I thought there might be an easier explanation.

Are there no registry entries I can delete to remove all trace of the beta?

I'm not confident enough to go into the registry and delete things on my own, You could try a registry cleaner. I know a couple for xp but not vista. Windows has an online scan for vista. It might clean it but its a Beta version: What's new - Windows Live OneCare safety scanner for Windows Vista

When you install another version of LW, it automatically uninstalls your current version. To uninstall manually go to C:\Program Files\LimeWire\Uninstall.exe. Don't use the add/remove programs.

The times I've had trouble connecting after an update have been because of my firewall. Either I've had to make a new exception for LW or java or both. Also check to see that your Listen on Port and PortForward port haven't changed. Open LW and go to Tools>Options>Advanced>FireWall Config, and check the port numbers.

Someone must know how to fix this problem.

I don't have a router and it won't connect even with the firewall switched off.

I have removed all traces of every version then restarted but it still wont connect.

You could try rolling back your Java to 1.5.11

Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Already tried the older java. Didn't work.

Are you sure it's not your isp? I found some stuff about them limiting bandwidth during the day, but that's probably not it.

Your not using the google toolbar by chance: LW and google tool bar
