Connection Problems...surprise surprise

Issue: I just payed for Pro and now it wo'nt connect. I get the error: "LimeWire was unable to initialize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking Limewire's access to the internet of loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow LimeWire to access to the internet and restart Limewire"

I went into the firewall settings and allowed limewire to go through but still get the error. Any help?

wondering why June 18th, 2007 02:07 AM

Try uninstalling your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Also can you tell me what your modem/router is ??
It's what connects your computer to the internet and if you turn it upside down it should tell you the make and model number...

Solution

FYI:

The issue wassolved by going into the settings for Windows Live OneCare and allowing LimeWire through the firewall.

If you are using Norton, make sure your Vista firewall is turned off. Keep in mind every time you update either LW or Norton, you need to reconfigure it to allow LW in the firewall. So delete the previous LW firewall rule in Norton and re-add it.

It sounds to me however your main problem is blocked ports, either due to router or ISP. Try a connection port between 49152 - 65535. A good one to try is port 64049. Go to LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Firewalls & change setting to Manual & set the port as suggested.

Make sure your LW is using a different port to connect thru than your other computer. You can only use one connection port per computer on a LAN for LW, otherwise the router seems to cancel one out. See suggestion in my previous post.
AVG now comes with a firewall, are you sure you don't have AVG firewall as well. Only one firewall should be active.
