3. How much ram? 2GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 298GB
5. Connection type? ADSL

9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? MTCO
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? The test worked

Your Linkskys has a Nat Firewall as you are aware of and will need to Port Forwarded...These are the instructions for the WRT54Gv5, hopefully they are similar if not the same as the v6....;)

Port Forwarding for the Linksys WRT54Gv5

works now thanks!

jessman July 27th, 2007 04:55 PM

ok I spoke too soon. For some reason it worked that one time and now it will not connect again! The port I chose was 33990. ON the link you gave me it has a step where I enter the static IP of where I want to forward to, and basically you just have to put the 1 in the box cause all linksys are 192.168.1.1

Well, there was something that happened when I setup my router and so I have to use 192.168.2.1

This mean I cannot enter anything into the boxes when they ask cause they use.1.1, and I use .2.1!!!

Also, I went to my router setup page and in addition to putting 33990n in the port forward boxes and selecting "both", I went to the port trigger tab and put 33990 in every box there as well. I also enabled dmz, and still I have the damn firewall symbol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure I am following, did you not create a static IP number ??
Did you select the box in the instructions that say "Find Staic IP"

PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

jessman July 28th, 2007 03:04 PM

I'm not sure I understand this static IP thing. I don't know if the other computer has a static IP.

When I did the ipconfig /all, the DNS server was 192.168.1.1

While the DHCP, and default gateway were 192.168.2.1

wondering why July 29th, 2007 12:43 PM

Yep, so what you do is fill in the boxes with those numbers, where the instructions tell you to (it's best to write down all the info from your ipconfig screen) once they are all filled in you click on the "find static IP" and a IP number will appear, then you go back to the port forwarding instructions page and enter that number into the box it tells you to and you go from there...

jessman July 30th, 2007 04:07 PM

ok, I'm trying to do this static IP thing. In my router setup page, there are Static DNS 1, and Static DNS 2, both have 192.168.1.1 in them.

There is also a static DNS 3 and WN, but nothing is in those boxes

When I type the ipconfig/all, my default gateway is: 192.168.2.1, and subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

I will continue on with the tutoiral and see what happens

jessman July 30th, 2007 04:20 PM

ok I jsut went through the static Ip thing. All was good until the very end where I go to network connections and stuff. the button was checked on find automaticlaly, and so there was nothing in the IP, Subnet, and defualt gateway boxes just liek the tutorial said, but when I went to manual, there was still nothing in those boxes, and thge tut said that there would be numbers in there that I could write down so if things went bad I could set it back to the way it was.

Anyways, I still enterd the static Ip and stuff in, but it gave me a warning:

"The default gateway is not on the same network segment (subnet) that is defined by the IP address and subnet mask. Do you want to save this configuration?"

What should I do? When I entered the info into that tut to give me an static IP it said I should use 207.179.242.136

Also I only have one name server (DNS) in my router. Is that normal?

If it is any help, my comp, and my xbox 360 receive the wireless signal. My Sisters comp is the one actually hooked up to the router, and the ADSL modem is also hooked into the router

jessman July 31st, 2007 06:23 PM

ok, that static IP guide is bogus. I did everything in it, and put in the Static Ip it told me to, and after that I couldn't even log onto the internet! Had to change everything back to the way it was. WTF man!! This is getting very aggrevating. Why am I the only one with a problem like this?

jessman August 5th, 2007 11:07 AM

hello, can anyone respond?

wondering why August 5th, 2007 11:18 AM

I can only suggest these fixes although I think your problem is with the Nat Firewall...

Try uninstalling all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Then try deleting your preference folder/s...
Fixes for Limewire when LW isn't operating as it should

jessman August 5th, 2007 11:32 AM

yes, Every problem I have with my internet sutff (connecting to LW, connecting to Azerus, playing Xbox Live, playing online comp games ) has to do with NAT. I have trying to figure out how to fix this for years, but everyone gives me the same resposne, which is that static Ip site, and the port forward.com site. None of those work of cousre, so hopefully your method will

jessman August 5th, 2007 11:39 AM

I can't find the limewire preferences folder. I am using Vista Home premium

wondering why August 5th, 2007 12:28 PM

Oops sorry...http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html

This is more than likely not going to help you with the Nat firewall...It can work with connction problems, but by the sounds of the trouble you have been having it's not the fix, but I could be wrong...

You might want to purchase a new modem/router, one that doesn't contain the Nat Firewall....

jessman August 5th, 2007 01:02 PM

well the fix seemed to work...for now at least. Who knows if it will work tommorow.

wondering why August 5th, 2007 01:15 PM

Did it !!!...Hopefully it will be all good for you now...Let us know if it runs alright from now on...

jessman August 5th, 2007 01:24 PM

will do. I jsut it isn't like alst time.

When I first dl'd LW a few eeks ago, I had this problem, and I think I made this topic because of that, and thought the problem was solved, cause it connected. Then the next day it wouldn't coonnect, and had the problem since now. I hope it is fixed.

How the heck do you get aorund NAT's anywyas? Those things have been plaguing me since I got a wierless network, and to this day I have no idea how to get through NAT's. Hell I have never been able to connect to a single game made by EA since 2004 because of NAT!!!

wondering why August 5th, 2007 01:39 PM

The only thing I can think of is that you had already successfully created a static IP, you see you only ever have to do the static IP once, that's why you where more than likely having so many problems, so now all you need to do is port forward for each application the Nat Firewall blocks...

So maybe when you set up the port forwarding for limewire it worked but you still had the Java issue and your preference folder needed to be refreshed....
Why don't you try one of your games now and just try opening up the port and skip the Static IP part...;)
If you need a link let me know and I'll see if I can find it for you...

jessman August 5th, 2007 01:58 PM

well when I used the link in this topic about setting up a staitc IP, that was the first time I have ever messed around with something like that. Once I followed the guide and did everyuhtng it said, I entered the IP it told me to, and my comp could no longer connect to the interent after that. I immediatly changed it back to "automatic" and I could connect to the internet once again.

As for my games, I ahve the xbox live port forwarded, and so I can download things a lot faster form the marketplace now, but I still have a very hard time connecting and playing any game online. most of the time I will see only 4-6 games avaiable, and this is on the most played game on xbox live, Gears of War, and I can do this any day, and any time of the day and still get around 5 room avaible, so I know its not just me loggin on at a bad time of day.

Then there is the EA problem, of not being able to connect to any EA server, or EA made game EVER.

wondering why August 5th, 2007 05:53 PM

This is the list of sites from the Port Forwarding site, if there is a game there that you want to port forward for just click on the link...
Don't do the static IP though, just the Port Forwarding...
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

I think the first time you attempted the port forwarding and you connected was when things worked out, but when you went to connect the next day I think your preference folder got in the way...Not to sure..;)
