Mysterious firewall issue... can't connet :(

1. OS version? Windows Home Vista
2. What firewalls you have? 2- Windows (off), Norton (on)
3. How much ram? 9.99 GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 138 GB
5. Connection type? High Speed Cabel Modem
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? COX Cable, PCX1100U
7. Where are you trying to connect from? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW4.14.3 Java1.6.0-oem
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? The page reads "Your test worked!!"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Two household PCs are connected to this modem directly, and one wireless laptop is "connected" (but rarely used).
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. This is my first try with this version of LW.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? PnP enabled
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...lies/smile.gif
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). Norton Protection

I installed LW roughly 2 days ago. For the first couple hours, the globe/wall icon appeared on the bottom left of the program and only enabled me to connect with 1 green bar. While PnP was enabled, I reconfigured Norton and Windows Firewalls to permit Limewire (even though I had my Norton FW on and Windows FW off. I wanted to make sure it could get through no matter what). This did not work, so I waited a while:shoot:. Miraculously, a couple hours later, the globe/wall icon disappeared and I was able to download songs. After about 5 hours, I turned off my computer. I tried connecting the next day, and the same problem occured. This time, however, the icon stayed, and I haven't been able to fully connect since. I don't know what I did to make it connect before, if I even did anything at all:confused:. I continued to tweek with the firewall and ports. I enabled port forwarding, tweeked with port numbers and enableing them through the firewalls. I still had no luck. As of now, the UPnP is enabled... and I'm just hoping that little icon will disappear again.

P.S. I've read the majority of the forums pertaining to this problem, and you guys seem to really know your stuff. I greatly appreciate you helping us all out so willingly. Please keep it up!

wondering why August 9th, 2007 05:30 PM

Unfortunatley it's your ISP...Cox are known to traffic shape at peak times...That's the reason the firewall comes and goes and sometimes you can connect but other times you cannot...
