"Currently connecting" Hello, I am a new LimeWire user. Everything was working well at first, but during the last few days, I have had problems connecting. The lower-left corner has one small green bar and 4 red bars, and it says "You are currently connecting to the network." When this appears, I can't search for anything, which is frustrating! I use windows Vista, have Norton anti-virus, and contect to the Internet via a Netgear router. None of these settings have changed from when LimeWire DID work correctly. Has this happened to anyone else, or can anyone suggest a solution to this problem? Thank you! |
I will need a few more details, could you answer these please...;) http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...-you-post.html |
Thanks for your quick reply. Here are the responses, in red, to the best of my knowledge: 1. OS version? Windows Vista 2. What firewalls you have? built-in Windows and maybe a router one? 3. How much ram? 2038 MB 4. Hard Disk space available? 145 GB 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) I think cable, but I'm not sure 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Netgear # WGR614 7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? at home - a condo-townhouse 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW - 4.14.5. Java - 1.6.0 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? [COLOR=red*******er [/COLOR]10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It worked. 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No, I don't think so 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 1st try 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes, it says it has detected a firewall http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? I'm not sure 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...lies/smile.gif Norton Anti-Virus and Ad-Aware 16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). USA |
Try Port Forwarding your modem/router as it has a Nat Firewall within... Port Forwarding for the Netgear WGR614 |

WOO-HOO, MY LIMEWIRE WORKS!!!!!:super: (for the moment rite) Bas- you da man.:aweof: I'm runnin vista home Premium on a dell 640m laptop. 1.66 duo2. 1024ram. 80G HD. 1. Are you able to identify which McAfee program is the cause of the issue. Tried "- click Start - click Run - type: services.msc - click OK BUT THEN VERY IMPORTANT>>>>>> I DOUBLE CLICKED McFEE RE-DIRECT LINE AS BAS SAID, CLICKED "STOP" AND ALSO THE SELECTED "DELAYED START UP automatic" FROM THE LIST. :dance:Its downloading faster than i can decide what to look for. (30kb/s average on 2meg virgin BB, even just from 1 host, faster if more) about 2mins per track-is that fast? :idea:Also your LW must be set to run on start up- this is so LW kicks in before Mc-afee does. you can open and exit LW after that many times in a session and it has run fine 10 hours since first post now at 5 + reboots Do give the green bars a min or two to kick in tho. What version of LimeWire (Pro) are you using? 4.14.8 4. What ports have you configured for LimeWire? Does the issue exist if you try different ports? didnt need try 5. Opening ports in the McAfee Firewall: - didnt need try 6. What other solutions / work-arounds have you tried already? Also: I dont know if this did anything tho its worth a go But i read somewhere about a limewire>aero interface conflict so i changed my Desktop apperance to windows classic (yea i had forgot what it looked like too, like a breeze block!) just before i did the "Mcfee, services.msc, redirect" thing. Limewire started working so i changed it back to Aero BASIC (why stress your machine on colours n shades)and its still working. Did it matter , i dunno but hey.http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...s/confused.gif This is my first post here so i hope it made somes day? RK |
